First, , it sounds as though you're doing really well.

Congratulations!

I think docs rely on their own experiences in prepping patients. A

doc who frequently has needed transfusions in his work may want to

have autologous donations banked. Or if he thinks the particular

procedure may need them. Or if he has reason to doubt the safety of

the blood supply available. Or if he just wants to be super careful.

My doc told me I could do it if I wanted, but that he really didn't

think he'd need it, and that it would be thrown away in that case.

(I'd have done it if the blood could have then been used for someone

else who needed it, as I am a blood donor of long standing, although

with veins which have become more difficult lately.)

Glad to hear you're having a relatively easy time, and

congratulations again1!

> justg wondering how common it is to donate your own blood. It

seems that a ot of people on this group go through a lot more than i

did in prep for the surgery. Not to drum down the seriousness of

anyones case, we are all going through/went through major surgery

here but don't some of you feel the doctors really work you up for

the worse? I know my surgery was supposed to be intermediate-major

work, but when i see the very little prep i went through compared to

most it makes me wonder. Also, the doctors didnt play down the

seriousness for me, but they didnt make me feel like I was goign

through a heart transplant or anything. most of my fear was thigns

that I conjred up myself, and now in heinsight (three days of

heinsight) i was sily for worrying about it. My operation thus far

was a breeze compared to what I expected.

think i breathed better through my nose then than I have in the past

2 years. Honestly, the hardest part at this point is not being able

to talk to my friends (other than online, which is a pain in the

rear) and the constant hunger. but that is cured pretty fast when I

think back to the porkchop my mom blended for me the other day..

anethesist, or staff everyone was so good to me adn im sure they will

be to you. If they arent good to you from the get go start

considering another surgeon.
