Guest guest
Oddly enough, I am HIGH in iron (normal ferritin). So high that when I had my one-year bloodwork done by my surgeon's office, they suspected I might have hemochromotosis, which can be very dangerous. My PCP, however, in looking at the rest of the bloodwork, said the other values were not consistent with that condition, and my iron levels were not high enough to worry about, but WERE high enough to continue to monitor. What she told me was that certain populations of people do tend to have high iron values - one of them was people who live in high altitudes. I lived in Denver for 16 years, and she thinks perhaps there is some carryover from that. Is anyone familiar with that idea? I would think that excess hemoglobin production would fall off once the need for it passed. I'm also post-menopausal (since the surgery), so that would help keep my iron higher. I'm glad for it now, though - whatever is causing it. I imagine that's the reason my energy levels have stayed high. --- Start weight 365# Lap RnY, Distal - Dr. s Vanderbilt University Hospital Surgery date June 3, 2002 Current weight 199.5# ----- Original Message ----- > We are almost ALL low in iron, according to a reasonably large study I read recently. Guest guest
I also have the high ferritin. Have been tested for everything, inc liver biopsy. Of course, as distal as I am, I am SUPPOSED to be drastically anemic. There's not even iron in my multi. Not that iron food would do any good, but there is little to no chance of any of it getting past my lips anyway. Go figure Thanks, Vitalady, Inc. Guest guest
Here's how I do it- sit sorta sidewise to the computer desk and throw the bad foot (the one in the cast) up on the desk and then throw the good foot on top of that one, put the keyboard in lap. Works great for me. I have to keep the Charcot foot up as much as possible thus this solution. There's even room for a dog or cat if you balance the keyboard just right on them! LOL! (It also helps that I have one those roller ball mices so I don't have to scribble around a rodent!) Alice The Loon RNY 12/28/00 > If I'm here, I'm on drugs. Count on it.
