Guest guest
Hi , I'm also new to the group and I had BSSRO maxillo reduction done a week ago in Vancouver at the UBC Hospital. Like yourself, I had my physical done, surgical hooks placed onto the upper and lower wires, and prior o surgery I had a blood test to make sure my blood doesn't clot during surgery. I'm quite healthy, so I had no complications, and the surgery went well. It was my first time in the OR so I didnt know what to expect. Prior to surgery, I was given an anti-inflammatory IV for 3 hours while I waited. The experience for me was a bit nerve-racking, but in hindsight it's not so bad. When I woke u in the recovery room, I felt nauseous fom the anaesthetics and had the urge to throw up, but the gravol in the IV saved me. I had an overnite stay in the hospital and now I'm home recovering, with no pain since my chin is numb. The only discomfort is the swelling and at this point, some soreness in the TMJ joint when I open my mouth, since the muscles are getting used to the new position. As you've probably already been told, the swelling is worst in the first 3 days post-surgery, and after that the bruising and swelling eventually dissipates. I'm at day 10 and using warm packs to increase circulation and bring down the swelling. I was on a blenderized and liquid diet the first week, and now I'm starting to eat soft foods since I can remove my elastics during eating and cleaning. I also have a plastic splint in my mouth for 3 weeks to align the bite. No chewing allowed for 4 weeks. , what are you having done? upper or lower or both? Where are you getting this done? Good luck with everything and we'll chat soon. orthognathicsurgerysupport , " emily8171983 " <emily8171983@y...> wrote: > > Hi everyone... > I just thought I'd see what people have to say about orthognathic > surgery.
