We are traveling to central AZ during this coming week. 's only worn her helmet during mild to cold temperatures. Here in the Batlimore area, we are only now starting to get some early spring like weather (50s and 60s). will not be used to the 80s to 90s we will get in the Phonenix area. I've heard that taking it off frequently and wiping off the head helps. I also brought plenty of summer clothes and will plan on dressing her very lightly. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Also, we may have the chance to go swimming. I know that the helmet can't get wet and we shouldn't have her out of it for very long. Has anyone dealth with swimming during months while wearing the helmet? Should I just avoid it? , mom to , 19 months 1 week 19.5 weeks in STARband plus CST land

Guest guest
When you are in Arizona plan on dressing your child really lightly, probably just a onsie will be enough with no socks. That was how we dressed during the summer when it was around 85 degrees where we live. My son had his band during the summer and when we went swimming we used that as our 1 hour off time. So, we would swim, take a bath and wash the hair really well and then put the band back on.  It usually took more than an hour to do all of that so on those days he ended up being out of the band for more than an hour. I figured we weren’t doing it every day so the extra time wouldn’t hurt him. Even if you do it several times while you are on vacation you should be okay. Have a great time in Phoenix! We are also heading out there on Friday! Guest guest
got his helmet in August in Charloote, NC (we live 2 hrs south of that in sc, what i refer to as the armpit of the earth in august b/c of the heat and humidity, worse than where i moved from in s fl) on the hottest day so far of the year, turned out to be during a record breaking 14 days of temps over 100 (which equates to 110+ heat index b/c of our humidity). that first day i think he could go maybe 15 mins outside before sweat was pouring out the back of his helmet. but he got used to it more and more each day and by the end of the week he could be outside and only need wiped once at most. we swam, went to the beach, etc but tried to stick to only 1 hr without the helmet so if he spent an entire 1 hr swimming we counted that as his bath that day lol. of course it was a challenge wanting to not leave the helmet in the sweltering car but not anywhere near the sand or water. at the hotel we stayed at i left it in the room, at the beach it stayed in the stroller, the pool it was way over by a table, etc wrapped in a towel, stuck in a bag and careful to let sunscreen dry before putting it basvck on for places like the zoo On Sun, Apr 5, 2009 at 12:05 AM, Darcy Brignac <darcybrignac@...> wrote: Yes, please answer everyone!I too am wondering about this.My daughter, Olivia, will be 5 months old this Sunday (Easter) and is getting her DOC Band from CT this Monday. We live in the DFW area in Texas and today it was already 83 degrees and Olivia is a hot natured baby! Guest guest
Our dd had her band during summer in Cali - and it got over 100 for a few weeks in there. WE bought a battery powered portable fan (I think at rite aid) and if we went out of our A/C in the house I had that in front of her or clipped on her stroller, etc. We had to go to brothers baseball games and it was HARD! Also - dress in just a onsie if you can... and no socks or shoes. As far as swimming - we didn;t deal with that BUT we did go to the beach alot and our ortho said not to have her wear it at the beach... though I know others at that time were wearing at the beach. But that was more for sand. You could just plan on the hour off being the swimming time.
