Guest guest
,Did you start SCD right after being diagnosed? So, do you know how you felt without being on SCD?Is being on SCD better than not on SCD for you despite the flairs?-UC - 1+ yearsSCD - 8 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Asacol - 12 pills a day Prednisone 40mg entocort With vit E mixed inBack to intro/stage 1 for now.To: BTVC-SCD From: kevinking114@...Date: Thu, 25 Mar 2010 18:36:20 -0700Subject: Re: If meds cover up food reactions, do you re-start everytime you flare? After nearly 8 months on the diet I just keep going with SCD even with a flare, I just had a "mini flare" last week but had gone about 7 weeks without a flare. I just upped the prednisone back to 20mg a day. Coincidentally I had been looking at Welches Grape Juice had was wondering about how much I was drinking. I have had some friends with healthy guts say it gives them the runs and they were surprised that I would drink this with digestive issues. I read here that it is questionable now if it is still legal as it is made from concerntrate. My dilema is I was getting 1,000 plus much needed calories a day from Grape juice that I now have to make up somewhere else. The asacol, apriso meselamine type medicines do nothing for me. Maybe they are better for UC than CD. K. I'm going to assume once I get better that the meds i'm on will be covering up any adverse food reaction. So, after I get all healed up for a period of time, lets say 1 month with no issues at a certian dose of medicine. Then I taper down a little, and so on and so fourth. At some point i'm sure to have a reaction. Maybe blood, maybe gas, maybe D, whatever. What then? Do you stay at that dose of meds and go back to intro for a few days then start introducing foods one at a time again?Do you have to do this everytime you get a reaction to see if the foods you tolerate are now different at different doses of meds? Or, do you stay on a higher dose of meds that you're comfortable on (no steroids) and keep intoducing new foods one at a time? Then after a few years try and taper off the meds?-UC - 1+ yearsSCD - 8 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Asacol - 12 pills a day Prednisone 40mg entocort With vit E mixed inBack to intro/stage 1 for now. Guest guest
Welche's grape juice is legal unless it has calcium added. White or purple welche's grape is fine. Are you diluting it at least by 50% with water or more? Are you eating yogurt or DCCC? Guest guest
I have had CD since 1977 with only a few remissions prior to SCD. I started SCD last August, it is a huge improvement, but not quite a 100% cure. Really wish I had known about SCD a long time ago! Guest guest
good to know, thanks!Been asking people that tried the diet, even if they ended up with surgery. So far 100% of the people i've talked to say it improved their condition. Even if remission wasn't the end result.-UC - 1+ yearsSCD - 8 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Asacol - 12 pills a day Prednisone 40mg entocort With vit E mixed inBack to intro/stage 1 for now.To: BTVC-SCD From: kevinking114@...Date: Fri, 26 Mar 2010 03:22:47 -0700Subject: Re: If meds cover up food reactions, do you re-start everytime you flare?
