I've had metal and ceramic braces too. (ceramics are on now) I

totally agree with Sara about intake and food consumption affecting

the appearance of the ceramic bracket. I don't smoke/drink coffee

anyway, and don't partake in tomato sauces every day :) .... when I

do have something with a tomato sauce or tea or whatever... a make

sure I brush thoroughly right afterwards. The only comments I've ever

gotten about my braces which I've had on for a year are that no one

can really see them at all. They certainly don't show up in photos or

anything either. I think the look and appearance of the ceramics

depends hugely on the individual wearing them... what they

eat/drink/expose their teeth to and how well/often they clean their

mouth. It's just like the individuality of the appearance of our

teeth under the brackets!!! :) Mine are a lot whiter because of not

drinking coffee/tea or smoking, etc.

I don't know what I'd do if my surgeon had recommended that I switch

my braces. I wouldn't be happy either way. I'd want to follow the

recommendations of my OS obviously but at the same time, I had chosen

the ceramics for a reason. Tough position to be put into... I feel

for the situation Connie is in now. Before my surgery, my OS never

even so much as mentioned the chance of aspirating a bracket or even

that they might fall off. Totally depends on the type of surgery and

the OS, I guess. Each knows his own work best too, I'm sure....

Probably, I would have ultimately followed the recommendation of the

OS because I would want to provide him with the best possible

circumstances for not only successful, but optimal surgery

results.... the metal brackets would be temporary, but then I am not

having to wear them. :(

Sara, now you've made me nervous about getting my braces removed

whenever that may be... I hadn't heard that taking the ceramics off

is less pleasant than getting the metal brackets taken off... Yikes!
