Thank you Cyndy for your words...

I have felt so depressed lately about my braces...I did not realize that food

has to be approached in a much different way....at least for right now.

Sometimes I feel that I should have spent more time researching the pros and

cons of the braces combined with surgery. I don't even remember half of what the

Orthodontist has told me other than because of my bite, I am wearing down my

back teeth & that braces alone won't correct the problem. Also, since the

Maxillofacial Surgeon knew immediately what should be done, I just trusted both

of their their strategy(ies).

I wonder how an educated and professional woman could fork out $6500 so quickly

without addressing all of the advantages/disadvantaged. I guess I figured that

since my dental insurance covers $2500 of the cost, and Kaiser will be doing the

surgery (co-pays only) that I should take advantage of my insurance while I

can...

I'm going to try to change my attitude so I can make it through this process.

Thanks again for sharing your experience!

Debbie-

It's funny - I've had my braces for about a year now - I too was SO excited when

I got them on - this adventure of fixing my teeth was finally beginning and I

just so excited. Then my mouth just hurt! I was so surprised and dissappointed.

I could hardly eat anything, and I just couldn't figure out the wax. If I could

have ripped them out of my mouth and thrown them out the window I would have and

not looked back!

At about the 2 week mark things got better, and by the time I got my first

adjustment at my OD things were a lot better.

I think now that it's a good thing I went through that so I can get ready for

the post-op universe when surgery happens in August.

I just keep telling myself that the smile of my dreams is worth it, and by

Christmas this will (hopefully) be water over the bridge.

Have your favorite flavor of shake (mine was a chocolate Fribble from

Friendly's) and hang in there!

Connie,

Thanks for your info! It helps me to realize that I'm not the only

one feeling like a " baby " about the braces. I did feel like the

first week was a kind of archaic torture & I would look at

kids/teenagers and wonder how they seemed to adjust just fine while

all I wanted to do was complain about my hurting mouth! It must be

harder for Adults? to have braces...

I'm also glad to know that the time will fly as tomorrow it will

have been two weeks for me with the braces on, but all I can think

about is how slow time has gone! Luckily I am starting to eat

more " normal " foods now...

Thanks again for your support.
