I saw some improvement, but not a lot during intro (less frequency). After the colonoscopy, I continued SCD, limiting honey, fruit and high carb veggies and had amazing results. I started the intro diet again on Sunday and can say that so far today I've only gone two times, but it is still water. > > > > Sorry this is so long, I'd appreciate any thoughts/advice. > > > > Pegi > > >
Guest guest
Pegi,Your progress will most likely be 2 steps forward and 1 and a half backwards... IT's extremely tough to stay positive when your taking that step and a half in the direction you just came from, but it's worth it in the end. This is probably just your 3 month flare, and if you've seen such strong indications that the diet is doing something then you're well on your way to recovery.I've been on the diet almost a year and I was doing fine, then about 2 months ago I had to take antibiotics and now i'm on all sorts of meds. Still on SCD though, because it WORKS.It just goes to show that anything can happen at anytime. I'm sure you'll have a great success story in time.-UC - 1+ yearsSCD - 8 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Asacol - 12 pills a day Prednisone 40mg entocort With vit E mixed inBack to intro/stage 1 for now.To: BTVC-SCD From: pegi.nadeau@...Date: Tue, 30 Mar 2010 19:04:39 +0000Subject: Need some encouragement/advice I'm sure this same type of message has been posted many times, but I would really appreciate any advice/encouragement right now. Guest guest
almost forgot,It's a good idea to keep a list of how you're feeling, symptoms, ect. That way you can look back on it and remember how bad you felt. It's very easy to get adjusted to feeling good, and then get discouraged when you have aminor setback even though you're still doing 10 times better than when you started out.Hope that makes sense!-UC - 1+ yearsSCD - 8 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Asacol - 12 pills a day Prednisone 40mg entocort With vit E mixed inBack to intro/stage 1 for now.To: BTVC-SCD From: pegi.nadeau@...Date: Tue, 30 Mar 2010 19:04:39 +0000Subject: Need some encouragement/advice I'm sure this same type of message has been posted many times, but I would really appreciate any advice/encouragement right now. Guest guest
Thanks so much , I guess I just needed to hear someone say that eventually it does get better. I know it does me no good to get discouraged and depressed either. I am keeping a journal now, I wasn't doing that in the beginning...I can't wait to look back at this when it's a distant memory!! Guest guest
Pegi, When I started SCD I was in really bad shape. My doc couldn't find the right meds to help and I was having to take pain meds just to get through the day. At night I just laid on the couch and cried. Sometimes I couldn't even cook my daughter dinner. SCD fixed that though it took two tries. The first time I just jumped right in and it didn't help at all. The second time I did the intro diet and was off pain meds after the first day. Now, I have had setbacks since then mostly because I tried something too advanced. However the flares I have now are nothing like the ones over two years ago. had a great idea of writing down how you feel now so when you do have a setback or flare you can remember how much worse it was before SCD. My biggest piece of advice is to take slow adding one food at a time. Another is to eAt plenty of the foods you do tolerate and keeps lots on hand either fresh or frozen. SCD does work but only if you give it some time. And, it's not an overnight cure. I've been on the diet over two years and am coming out of a flare from some illegals I had over the holidays. Good luck to you!!! Misty Kimble Cd no meds SCD 2 years
Guest guest
Misty, It sounds like you were much worse than me. I don't have a lot of pain, just occasional cramping but nothing requiring meds, so I am thankful for that. I've been fighting using any medications at all, but now I'm wondering if I should go back to my gastro and tell her I need some. (However, in the past, everything I was given had no effect.) This is my 4th day on intro and although the frequency has gone down, I'm still having all water D, so I'm wondering if I tolerate anything, I'm really confused over what to eat/do. I'm only having diluted apple juice in the am, plain SCD yogurt (no honey), SCD cheesecake and SCD chicken soup (with no carrots - I didn't tolerate them when I was better). Your success encourages me though, so thanks for telling me about it. Pegi > > Pegi, > > When I started SCD I was in really bad shape. Guest guest
Pegi, You might want to cut out the apple juice it causes D even in normal people (like my niece). I was not able to tolerate cheesecake or cheese even at first. My intro diet consisted of chicken broth and chicken only all veggies removed. Gelatin made with half water and half oj. I had this the first three days. I then started pureeing the soup veggiies back in and eating boiled eggs. After a week or so of that I started eating the veggies, scrambled eggs and trying to add foods. I did ok with zucchini and ripe bananas. Still no cheese though. After about three weeks I realized I tolerated Colby jack and started having omelets. I stayed with those core foods for a long time as everything else caused symptoms though I tried new things about once a week bafter about three months on the diet I started adding foods regularly. I still don't tolerate all foods or alot of nut flours or butters. I can't eat alot of raw stuff either. Misty
Guest guest
Thanks for the advice -- I'll try switching to OJ. I didn't think about doing that and wasn't wanting to give up the small amount of carbs from the apple juice....I'm so tired and know that part of it is from eating so few carbs. With all the controversy I've read on the board about the legality of certain juices, I think I will purchase a juicer this weekend. So I can definitely say that SCD has been good for my already existing obsession with small kitchen appliances Pegi > > Pegi, > > You might want to cut out the apple juice it causes D even in normal people (like my niece).
