Guest guest
Hi everyone, I was supposed to have surgery this morning, and actually got to the point where the antesthesiologist was going to put me under, and he decided that my gland was too swollen (I had woken this morning with a sore throat) and thought it would be better not to do it. I honestly thought he was kidding; I was in such shock. As we all know, you spend what seems like forever mentally and physically preparing for this surgery, and then to have it cancelled just like that is pretty overwhelming. I guess I could have risked it and gone through with it, but when you see Dr's with such concern, it's not exactly comforting. So, after being curled up in the surgical bed all ready to go, I had to get back up, get dressed and go home. As a cautionary tale, it just goes to show how your body reacts to stress, and the importance of listening to that. I haven't had a cold/flu any type of sickness in over a year, so it's not a coincidance that the day my glands swelled up like balloons was the day of my surgery. Yesterday, I was running around trying to get last minute stuff done, went to the gym and ran six miles and then only slept four hours. Now I realize how foolish that was, but it's just an example of not listening to what your body is telling you. To those having surgery this week -- take it easy and good luck. I get to go through the rounds of pre-ops and molds again this month and will try to get this done again June 1!! ARRRGGHHH --- sorry just had to vent to people who understand. Guest guest
, I am so sorry to hear about your disappointment. What a huge bummer! I can only imagine! And you make a good point in taking care of yourself pre-surgery. My mother and boyfriend keep on telling me, rest up, you need to be strong for the surgery! I'm actually flying to LA to visit my brother the week before surgery and am flying back to New York the day before my surgery whih is on June 6th. Fingers crossed I won't catch a horrible virus on the plane. Eeeep! Well since you'll be operated now on June 1st I guess that makes us recovery partners. There's quite a few of us in June so I'm sure we''ll keep each other good company. Now, make sure you rest and take care of yourself until then. Keep the positive attitude. I don't think I would have taken it as well as you did after all you went through. I'm impressed. Guest guest
, I'm SO sorry that your surgery had to be postponed. I just have to believe that everything happens for a reason - and it was meant to be that you wait, for now. Hopefully, you can reschedule soon! I liked having you as my surgery buddy! As far as I know I'm still scheduled for tomorrow. But, the nurse at my pre-surgical testing appointment told me that I had a low grade fever (99.5) and that it would be at my Surgeon's discretion weather or not I could move forward tomorrow if that was still the case. I've got my fingers crossed. Time will tell. I'll keep you in mind tonight as I force myself not to run around - which I was going to do - and try to follow Sara's advice and enjoy a cup of tea, instead. Gosh, ... I'm so so so sorry that your day got moved. I hope I can be here down the road to support you when the day comes - and maybe then I'll have some worthwhile post-op advice to give! In the meantime, go have something wonderful to eat! All the best, Carol ps ... I'll keep my thoughts focused on June 1st ... and my fingers crossed! > Hi everyone, > > I was supposed to have surgery this morning, and actually got to the > point where the antesthesiologist was going to put me under, and he > decided that my gland was too swollen (I had woken this morning with > a sore throat) and thought it would be better not to do it. Guest guest
Wow, , that's so unfortunate. I'm so sorry this had to happen! It must feel like such an anti-climax, after having gone through all the pre-op mental and physical preparation. I hope the re-scheduling comes through quickly for you. Be strong! Guest guest
, I'm sorry for your cancellation -- but thank you for the warning. I would be like you, running around like crazy trying to get stuff done. This is a good reminder to get it done early so I can relax beforehand. Good luck!
