Both my kids have a Britax, one of the safest seats on the market! When

my oldest was banded (13 months of age +) he did just fine in his

Britax. No complaints

I have 3 Britax, a roundabout for the baby rearfacing and a forward facing decthalon and forward facing marathon for my large 2 yr old and my 4 yr old. the 2 yr old is my band baby, he had a docband from 9-12 months. He didnt like the infant seat comfortwise so he switched to teh decathalon at 6 wks so had longs ince been in teh convertible when we got the band. The Decathalon has newborn pads and a head support, I had taken out the newborn pads but the head support was still in, it looked like it might snug the band too much so I took it out when he got the band. But for added cushion I put it back in for a while when he graduated just to cushion that newly formed head (I was scared of regression).

Every carseat has to pass the same inspections to be sold in teh US. So IMHO the BEST carseat is the one that fits your car best. For us I tried every seat in BRU and teh Britax fit the best and were the easiest to install. We have a forward and a rearfacing installed with latch and a forward facing installed with the seatbelt. we have tethers on all of them. they are installed in a ford minivan.

Personally, if you have the space I would opt for a Marathon (or if you have the money a decthalon or boulevard) b/c it will allow them to rearface longer and you wont have to worry abouit an in between seat. By rearface longer I mean that 1 yr is a minimum, actually the US has the lowest minimum. It is safer rearfacing even after 1. Besides IMHO rearfacing is easier, easier for them to sleep and when they drop their toys it tends to be on their lap, in their seat, unless they throw them, forward facing they drop them ion their lap and they slide right off onto the floor and their head flops when they sleep. By in between seat I mean that most children outgrow their convertible carseat in height 1st, at around 40 " tall yet they are not 40 lbs at that point so should still be in a harness so with a regular convertible you end up having to buy a bigger one or buy a harnessed booster to keep them in the harness until 40 lbs. My 4 yr old is typical of what all of my children have been. She is 39½ " , already about too tall for the roundabout which has a 40 " ht limit yet she is only 34 lbs fully clothes with shoes. Every single one of my kids has been 34 lbs at 40 " (though one was 2½, one was 3½ and one will be over 4 when they hit that)
