My son had 110% brachy and started his helmet on 12/20/08. We started seeing results within 2 weeks. It has now been almost 7 weeks and it is almost perfectly round. It was pretty flat to start. So, in my opinion, I don't think brachy is any harder to treat than any other form of Plagiocephaly.

Good Luck!

Does anyone know if Brachy is harder to treat?

I have heard it is harder to treat because it requires more growth. My

daughter had brachy (96%) and corrected to 85%. Her head is still not

perfect. With brachy the growth is directed to the back so the head

will round out, but the width that is there stays. So to correct the

overall proportion of the head you need a lot of growth at the back.

My daughter wore a starband for 5 mo. It takes a while, but it isn't a

battle like tort can be.

How old was your son when he started treatment? My daughter is 15 1/2 months

and she's been in her DOC band 4 days now. We got started later than we should

have but better late than never. We are just praying for a growth spurt...

My daughter was 14 3/4 months when she got her helmet (STARband) for Brachy. We had 8 mm growth in 9 weeks and she went from 95 percent to 92.3 during that time. As of Monday, she has been in her helmet for 12 weeks. I'm not sure whether we've had more improvement or not. I haven't taken pictures recently as I've been extremely busy with work and have had to bring work home. You can see before and after pictures under the N file under W. Those pictures were taken after 8 weeks only.

I also believe that we got some benefit from CST. She started the CST at 14 months and we had gone from 95 percent to 93.9 from the CST alone.

So, I'm not sure about the answer to your question, and 's head is not normal yet, but I agree with your statement that it's better than nothing.

We're still hoping for more growth, but are not sure how much more we'll get. Our place only scans her head every three visits and our visits are now 4 weeks apart because of her age. We were scanned last time, so we don't expect another scan for a while. To be honest, I can't tell if there's been much change in the width versus length of her head, but the back does seem to be rounding out a little more. I'm hoping we can get to 90 percent, but I think anything more than that would be unrealistic.

Anyway, we are happy with the progress that she's made and feel that she already looks much more normal than she did. So, if we don't get much more change, we are still happy with the choice that we made.

What was her starting percentage?

, mom to , 17.5 months

12 weeks in STARband plus CST
