Hi Debbie

Here is some information from LDN site

Other reasons of negative responses to LDN by Dr. Jaquelyn McCandlessThere is a phenomenon that happens to some people that as the immune system is shifting (usually from T2 to T1) right after starting LDN, the immune system drops and people get an infection, cold, flu, cold sore, etc. which is usually short lived. Candida tends to overgrow or a virus will flare up. These infections are usually short-lived unless something like candida and gut bacteria needs treatment. Are you a big bread/carbohydrate/sugar eater? Ever been tested for candida (yeast) or gut bacterial infestation? Ever been checked for hypothyroidism?

I know when my dad started LDN he got a very serious case of the flu. It took him ages to get over. He has not been sick like that since and that was nearly a year ago. It is interesting that the doc asks about hypothyroidism because thats what my dad has in the form of hashimotos.

I'm just curious if anyone has feedback.

Some old problems are rearing up lately. I used to get eye problems when I was on prednisone. The doc would give me cream to apply. No make-up or contacts for 10 days, etc. Was really bad on prednisone. Hair issues. Teeth--dental pain. Over the constipation problems--now worried about flaring.

I have not been 100% compliant because of trying new foods and the iron pills, etc. I started LDN earlier this month.

Should I redo the intro or go back to 100% compliance (as well as seeing the eye doctor which is overdue, etc.)?

Does anyone have old issues resurface even if you aren't really flaring--not like pre-scd anyway?

Thanks,

Debbie40cd

Ever been tested for candida (yeast) or gut bacterial infestation? Ever been checked for hypothyroidism?

Both have been normal.  I did have a lot of yeast problems from being on prednisone from 2002 to 2005 but the last Well Woman didn't show any yeast problems.

A few years ago they did some tests for thyroid but it was normal.

I'm not sure what shifting from T2 to T1 means.  It does kind of feel like the old prednisone problems resurfacing.  All I can do is try to take care of them as they surface.  It's weird but in some ways, I feel a lot better already.  That would be physical pain like back, hands, feet--pain and stiffness.  I can't help feeling it's because the body is fighting off elsewhere.  I'll go to the eye doctor (overdue anyway) asap and see what's going on.  I'm just keeping track of daily changes.  Usually I'd be in bed by 9p or soon after, naps during the day.  It's like I'm extremely lazy but not 'bone tired'.

Anyway, thanks and how is your dad now?  I look forward to seeing how it is when all the smal fires are put out.

Hi

In terms of pain my dad is great compared to before LDN. He felt better also while he had the flu to the point that he went a chopped down a tree in the yard.He is still having problems with thyroid and in the last week adrenal problems. If we could get that right then he would not have to be so reliant on LDN.

When you say that your thyroid results were normal. Did the doc go by free t3 and free t4 or tsh.

I'm not sure because it's been awhile.  I'm sure it was the basic.  I have all my test results boxed up from 2002 but I think this may have been done early on to see why I was so sick.  I don't know if my doctor now would do the tests but what would I ask for?

I'm glad your dad is feeling better.  How are you, do you have the same issues?Debbie 40 crohn's
