Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I was posting back to Michele about dealing with pain when it occured to me that others might benefit from this idea. I write craft books for a living, so making things is what I do all day-this idea is one of my favorites. This is a DIY heated bag. I use this all winter long for my feet in bed, and it works great for sore jaws. The idea is to make a fabric " bean bag " to heat in the microwave. Mine are made with a soft cotton or flannel fabric, use natural fibers for heating in the microwave. Cut a piece of fabric, so that when it's folded in half measures about 8 " wide by 16 " long (finished size of bag). Sew around 3 sides, with the rights sides together, leave one 8 " side open to fill with rice. Turn right side out and fill with rice (about 2/3 full) and sew the opening shut. Microwave the bag for about 4 minutes on high and this stays warm for hours. I sleep with one on each side of my jaw and the weight of the rice conforms to my jaws and holds my head in place while I sleep. I bet this would work with socks if you don't sew. You can re-heat this for years, the rice never goes bad. The bonus is that you can put it in the freezer if you want a cold bag. These are as good as pain killers to me, I depend on the bags to help me sleep each night. Hope this helps someone out there who is needing comfort. These are as Thanks Sherri I have bags like that but they are filled with corn. I'm going to make a couple news ones today and fill them with rice. The corn is very heavy, and never thought of rice. When you store your in the freezer did they pickup a freezer smell? Maybe it's the corn that is smelling bad. I think I will put some lavendar in the new ones. Hope to hear how your DR appt goes today. michele > good as pain killers to me, I depend on the bags to help me sleep > each night.
