Guest guest
Marla, what anti-hypertensive are you on? Maybe they need to start over, with a very low dose & gradually increase it as needed. Also, do you have a home b/p kit? It might be helpful to check your b/p twice a day, sitting, in your dominant arm. Make sure your arm is well-supported. (Oops! forgot you're a nurse!) Anyway, keep the chart, along with associated symptoms, activity, etc. & take to doc. Hope it stabilizes soon. Guest guest
Hi Rose, They have me on HCTZ 12.5mgs. down from 25mgs, Just saw the doc this week, and he has me taking the 12.5 qod, I take my BPs every day, sometimes twice a day, and they are all over the place. The day before I went in, it was 150/100, then 130/88 in the office, so came home took the little pill last night, and this am it's 89/50, but will keep at it, always something for sure. I asked if he thought P.T. would help my walking and balance, I've brought it up with other docs and they say why not, but this time I got an order. I am told, if you don't use it you will lose it, so had my first P.T. today, well wait and see. Has anyone else every had improved with Physical Therapy? Guest guest
Marla I took PT & OT last fall for a month & it helped my strength & my ability to walk but my balance is what it is. I had to quit going because the amount I owed after Medicare was outrageous and the ice and snow made it too hard for me to get to the rehabs bus. They weren't allowed to come get you. It was your responsibility to get to the curb. Hmmmmmm I spent so much time "in the gutter" the curb shouldn't have been a problem! LOL I had to say that. Guest guest
Marla, several years ago my b/p, which had been stable on one drug, suddenly got out of control, up to 180-190/120 (before I was on Pred). The on-call doc put me on HCTZ, don't remember the dose. Within 3-4 days I felt awful, pressures all over the place. I talked to my regular internist & he said that some people just don't do well on HCTZ. He changed it to something else, forget what, and within a week or so it was under control. We never did know what got it so high. Later on, after a year or so on Pred, I needed 4 drugs to keep it controlled. So I never took HCTZ again, although my mom did fine on it for years. Now I take Avapro, which is also good for my chronic kidney disease, and Toprol, which also helps my tachycardia. Guest guest
I had PT when I first came out of the hospt. it was great. I am starting it again on Tuesday. I can't wait. I am losing my confidence and need to get it back. Guest guest
, I tried OT and speech last year, I didn't find the OT that helpful, she wanted to help me become organized, well I am what I am, and that didn't help, but the lady was really nice, Speech was helpful, as she taught me how to get around remembering words if that makes any sense, as for PT we will see. My balance has been better since Remicade, but the feet still continue to disobey the mind, so to speak. anyway we always keep trying, because if we don't what do we have. Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it.Blessings, Marla Marla I took PT & OT last fall for a month & it helped my strength & my ability to walk but my balance is what it is.
