,

I have taken Melatonin as a sleep aid for the last couple of years. It works great for that. Is is a cure for sarc-- I wish it was that simple. I haven't had time to read the article you've posted-- but will and then will send more info.

Take care,

I followed this link to both the article on Melatonin and then into sarcodiosis-- coming up again into Trevor Marshalls protocol. With all the years we've spent on antibiotics-- I just can't get behind the idea of putting my body through years of constant antibiotic and Herx responses-- I know that the FDA just gave their blessing to use mino to treat sarc, but they gave pred the same blessing. They are both "off-label." So is everything else they put us on. Only a small portion of sarcoidians have a bacteria issue that needs antibiotics, and only a small portion have high calcium levels. Again, it's not a cure-- but another treatment option-- and a guess as to what long-term prognosis is going to show.

Melatonin is excellant as a sleep aid, and doesn't have the hangover effect if you get up and get outside into even a few minutes of sunshine. I don't know how effective it would be for those of you back east where winter lasts longer than it does here in Calif.

I have been taking 10mg of Melatonin a night for years-- since Ambien made my short term memory loss extremely bad, not to mention the falling asleep while driving. Not a good thing when I was having to commute to work.

Melatonin, Tryptophan and one other make a wonderful sleep aide. I'll have to look up the combo.

IF you are asking if Melatonin is a cure for sarc-- then it's a no-- but it will help with sleep issues.

It was interesting in that they state that it can increase T3-- one of the thyroid hormones. Again, I'd have to look up the different thyroid hormones to see what T3 does-- and if it's the one that triggers the parathyroid to produce calcium.

Rose, Marla-- what do you two know of the thyroid hormones and T3, T4 variables? Anyone want to research it and share what they learn?

Take care,

Tracie, I don't remember squat about thyroid hormones! I'll try to look it up, but not tonight. I'm getting ready to crash as it's almost 3am here.

lol! You ae keepig sarcoidosis hours of sleep also... I spent 3 am to 4am up reading, as I couldn't sleep last night-- my husband thought it was a good idea to close the air conditioning vents in the bedroom so it was so hot (he's on high dose coumadin). I ended up watching Life without People -- and had seen the part where the beer vats blow up because of the fermentation process-- and this morning at about 5 am, I was hiving a nightmare where I literally screamed out loud-- I was being suffocated by the "foam" on the top, and mine was from margaritias. (No- I havent' had a drink in years)-- and I was a daquaira woman)

So it was ice cold-- go figure.

had no sympathy -- he was pissed that he'd been waken, not once, but twice, by a screaming woman-- I think the first time was that I was wrapped in the sheet and couldn't get out and needed to fight off someone.

So, after only a couple of hours of sleep, I'm up again and have to see the doc to hopefully get an RX that will let my scooter be billed to Medicare. (Things you should do prior to purchase-- get the paperwork done first) so we'll see if I can win this one.

I hope that I get home before it gets hot, and can take a nap before he gets off work.

Hugs,

Tracie
