Guest guest
Hello All: I'm just writing to introduce myself. My surgery was in April of 2002. I've had problems since day one. So much so that I flew cross country to visit MOM's Dr. OH out in Wash. State. I won't go into all of my problems right now because I have a situation that's really getting to me. I have two marginal ulcers in my pouch and I'm having a really hard time taking Iron and Zinc. They're killing me. I've tried taking them with food but as you know we can't injest too many types of food with iron because it might interfere with the breakdown. I've been living on Protein Drinks and Saltines. My blood platelets keep dropping and my Doctor thinks it may be from the Zantac, Prilosec or Nexium that I've been taking for the ulcers. So, I've stopped them for the past few months until I take my next blood test. I can't take any type of pain killers not even Tylenol. I need knee surgery but because I'm caring for my 89 yr old father I can't see my way clear to surgery at this time. Would a couple shots of Carafate or Maylox interfere with the absorption of the iron before I take it? Also what type of pain killers could I take that wouldn't kill my pouch? Thanks for listening. Guest guest
Roe, Sorry for all the problems. My hematologist told me that it may actually be better for me to take my iron after food....something about it splashing up into the duodenum or not just running through. I wouldn't take it with the Maalox, because it seems one of the functions of Maalox is to " coat " the stomach. Take care, in Austin RNY April 1998 Hello and Ouch > Hello All: > > I have two marginal ulcers in my pouch and I'm having a really hard > time taking Iron and Zinc. They're killing me.
