Mine lined up perfectly before the surgery, but now on day 6, my

lower jaw is a few millimeters to the right. I've asked about this

several times and he said it was placed fine in the surgery. He

says it's probably just the swelling and that it's normal. If

there's still an offset after the swelling has gone, then braces can

easily correct it.

Hi Sherri,

My teeth seemed completely off when I first go out of surgery. I was

splinted, but not yet banded. My surgeon explained that there is

residual swelling in my joints that affect how level my teeth appear

or if they seem over/off a little. The bands i've had on since then

have shifted my lower teeth over and my teeth don't acutally fit into

my splint perfectly. I have check and rechecked with my surgeon who

said everything is where it needs to be. There will be, as I expected

all along, some ortho work after I get the splint out to fine tune

and perfect everything. That is pretty standard I think. But the

swelling can definitely affect the appearance of things. When I first

got out, because of strange swelling, my boyfriend and I thought they

had readjusted my upper jaw at some kind of angle so it was really

canted!. The swelling, which isn't always obvious, can be very

deceptive! You probably have a mix of swelling still affecting things

and some further adjustments needed after the surgery. If your

surgeon is confident, then you are probably just fine. I say all this

still feeling a little anxious and waiting to see how everything

falls into place once I get my splint out, so I know how you're

feeling!! Hang in there and it will all work out. :) Katja
