Guest guest
This has happened with more than one person. For most, indeed, the elastics have done the trick, but there are a few folks who had to have the surgery redone. If it is done again, it is usually much easier than the first time around. Here's hoping for your elastics! Best, Cammie > > Hi, my name is Tanner and I recently received a lower orthognathic > surgery which moved my jaw 5mm to the left. Guest guest
Hi there, thanks for the reply. Hmmm yea hopefully i wont have to do surgery again, but if need be is it something that they do right away or after bones have healed? Are you going through the surgery as well? Well any more info and help is appreciated. Thanx again:) tanner > > > > Hi, my name is Tanner and I recently received a lower orthognathic > > surgery which moved my jaw 5mm to the left. Guest guest
Most who've had a second go-round for a misplaced midline, I think, have had it before the bones healed. But not everybody. And many have used the elastics and found that they fixed the problem. I would suggest that you be vocal about your concerns with both your ortho and your surgeon. The worst thing that can happen is that they think you're a worry wart! ;~> (Of course I wouldn't be accusatory, or anything like that. But I would tell them I was worried. And then I would trust the answers they gave me.) I had lower jaw advancement by 5 mm, plus 3 mm movement to the right, back in June 2002. C. > > Hi there, > > thanks for the reply. Guest guest
Hi again..thanx for all the help! well i went back to my doctor today and they put my teeth back into the wires. My teeth fit into the splint not quite as well as they did right after the surgery but they do look much more aligned than the first time i had the wires taken off. They explained that i must have eaten something to tough (which i think i might have done as well) and that put pressure on my jaw to move. This sounded possible as my bite was correct before i ate dinner this one night. They also belive that my jaw is more fragile than most because it was rotated 5mm and not forward or back at all. apparently this is harder to heal. let me know what you think. again, thanx for the help:) tanner > > > > Hi there, > > > > thanks for the reply. Guest guest
Well, I don't know much about this. But I believe that your doc does. It must be a mixed feeling to be wired again... Glad to get things going in the right direction, but obnoxious to put up with. Oh well. Better that than another surgery, or mismatched jaws, don't you think? Just shows again that when the docs tell us not to chew, they know what they're saying... Sorry for the setback, though. Cammie > > > > > > Hi there, > > > > > > thanks for the reply.
