Guest guest
Hello, I just got back from my consultation with my PCP for the GBS. He put in a referral for me to see the general surgeon (both docs are at an Army hospital) for further eval. Next week I go in for blood work to make sure there's no thyroid probs etc. The good thing that happened at the apt is one of the nurses there had this procedure 14 mos ago -- although not at this hospital because she has private insurance instead of the military insurance (she is a civilian). So she talked to me about the surgery and her experiences which was really great. She also told me about a GBS support group that meets at the hospital once a month (their next meeting is next Wednesday) and I am looking forward to going to that and meeting people in person that have already gone through this. The only concern my PCP seemed to have is that I have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), but I have been in counseling, and on meds, for that for about five years and feel like I have a pretty good handle on it. So... I took the first step! The only concern I have now is that I want to make sure that the surgeon who does the procedure actually specializes in that procedure. I don't want to have this done at the military hospital, because I know they don't have as much experience with this as someone who specializes in GBS. Problem is I don't know if Tricare will let me choose my own surgeon. All I can do is wait for the next step and go from there. Talk to you all later, Colorado
