I think that some people are on the borderline of requiring surgery and those

are the people that are more in need of several opinions to help them decide.

Those that are definitely good candidates for getting the surgery and really

want it are less likely to ask many opinions. I know I pretty much need it and

only saw a second surgeon and went for him because I didn't get along with the

first. However both came highly recommended from my O/S and regular dentist.

I think it would be a great idea if this new member, or any new

member, gathered experiences and opinions from this forum and then

constructed a list of questions for the orthos and surgeons... in my

opinion, this is a very effective way of using this forum.

Also, yes, there needs to be a trust level - at least for me. These

were the qualities i was looking for in an ortho and surgeon:

1. competent with at least 15 years experience and over the age of

45 but under the age of 55

2. good listener

3. caring attitude

4. pragmatic

By the way, it's good to get 2nd opinions because some orthos and

surgeons have varying idea on treatment... i'm sure some of the

members here recall a poster named " DWILZEN. " One surgeon told him

to get the surgery, while the other recommended against it... that

is why i think it's important to get at least a few opinions...
