I was told that it can happen, or that a ceramic bracket can chip.

Then you can be in real trouble, if the chip goes into your lung,

because an x-ray cannot detect it. In fact, I had to sign a waiver

absolving my ortho and surgeon of blame and liability if that

happened.

It didn't, but if I'd have known to begin with, I'd have gone with

the metal brackets. I found the metal more comfortable, anyhow.

I haven't heard of this happening, either, but there must be a reason

for those waivers...

I have 6 clear brackets on my top teeth only. I had the same brackets

for the surgery, however, these brackets are not as sturdy as the

metal ones, and 2 of mine did break during surgery, and more became

unglued later on. But that's not a big deal - had to go to the ortho

to get new ones couple of days ahead of schedule. Otherwise, no problem.
