Guest guest
Howdy All, You read so many horror stories and " I'm miserable " posts here that I thought I'd share a bit of my story. I had upper and lower jaw surgery on February 3rd with Dr. Arnett and Dr. Gunson in Santa Barbara. To say that I'm pleased with my results would be the apex of understatment; I'm thrilled. But I also wanted to do a quick shout-out regarding my surgeons, Dr. Arnett and Dr. Gunson. Getting your face sawed in half, as I've said to friends and family before and after the surgery, is not for the faint of heart. It's not just the night in the hospital, the swelling, the drinking out of sippy cups and exercising so you can get your mouth open that extra millimeter. There's that nagging feeling of what if I go through all of this and the problem isn't solved, or what if I look worse? Wondering if your surgeon is the right surgeon, and so on. I had these thoughts before I met my surgeon, because it took six months to get a consult. But since my consult in 2002, and pre and post surgery in 2005, I'm happy to say that I didn't have a single regret. I was nervous about the surgery, becase, well, you're getting your jaw sawed off and put back together again. It's like a bad sci-fi/horror flick. My Duynamic Duo, as I refer to them to my friends, made this whole process a whole lot easier. Both Doctors are absolute dolls: friendly, professional, and have excellent bedside manner. A couple of weeks ago, Dr. Arnett thought he saw a slight complication arising and asked me to come up to Santa Barbara (I'm in Los Angeles) as soon as I could. When I got there, he actually drove me to an orthodontist's office in town and sat there while the adjustments were made, to make sure that everything would be okay. These gents down't need me to shill for them; Dr. Arnett has a pretty solid reputation on his own. But when my whole braces thing started, if you would have told me that the surgery part would be the easy part, I would have laughed at you. But my docs and their office staff have really made what could be a miserable experience an absolutely tolerable one. I'm gushing, I know. But how can you not have a crush on the men that made you look like you always wanted to look? It took me six months to even get a consult, and I remember thinking " is this worth it? " It was, and then some. Drs. Arnett and Gunson are at the Center for Corrective Jaw Surgery in Santa Barbara. They rule!
