I put mine in the laundry room because I did not want the constant noise in the kitchen. It's not really an abnoxious noise. It's just the steady low hum of a fan.

Okay, I've been reading some scary reviews about this thing making as much noise as a bathroom fan. Depending on how loud of a bathroom fan we're talking about, this could be an issue. We were thinking about getting one and putting it in our kitchen, but my parents are very light sleepers and they're right down the hall. For those of you who have one, exactly how much noise does it make? Thanks!Peace =)Alyssa 16 yoUC April 2008, dx Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)Azathioprine 50 mg 1x per dayPrednisone 35 mg 1x per day

Alyssa,The dehydrator provides what I would call white noise.  It is a low steady fan humming.  If you are standing right next to it and someone is speaking to you in a normal voice from 10 feet away you probably would not be able to understand them, but if you are next to them a few feet away from the dehydrator you will not have any problems carrying on conversation at a normal level.  I live in a tiny apartment and I cannot hear the dehydrator if I close my bedroom door at night.  The bedroom door is about 12 feet from where the kitchen begins, and the dehydrator sits right on that first corner of the counter.  I guess it depends on what you find annoying, but to me a low constant hum is not an annoying noise.  It is quieter than my dishwasher.  I hope that helps.  The dehydrator has been such a blessing to me on this diet, and I am at the point of maybe getting another though I don't know where I would put it.  In summer it is constantly running with fruit leathers and drying excess vegetables from the garden, so I need a second one for yogurt.  :-)

That thing needs to be kept in a utility room with the door closed! It isn't that it is super loud, but the noise is enough and it is constant. It would be like hearing the washing machine all the time. You serious?? Grrrr darn. And we just found a spot for it in the kitchen! Now I'm not sure where it could go, really...Which do you think would be better: closet, attic, or garage? Does it run worse when it's too cold/hot? This might be a problem...
