Guest guest
Folks, I am trying to find out how things are going around the country with our efforts trying to get farmworkers included in the 2010 Census. · Are farmworkers completing Census forms? · Are the forms getting to them? · Did the Census Bureau reach labor camps, unusual living sites (e.g., cars, under bridges, etc.) and other places farmworkers reside during their three days of enumerating “unusual places” March 29-31? · Are there language problems between Census enumerators and farmworkers? · Are indigenous farmworkers being reached? · If you have a Census Questionnaire Assistance Center in your health clinic or other area in your community, how is that working out? · Any other issues? I would be grateful if people would comment to the listserv or to me personally at las@.... I am particularly interested in what is going on in the Northwest, as I can promise to forward your comments on to regional Census staff here. Thanks. Alice Alice C. Guest guest
Alice, there is an on-line newsletter in the lower Rio Grande Valley, the Rio Grande Guardian. I recommend to review it to see the problems going on here for people who live in colonias, as do many farmworkers. Public officials and letters to the editor provide lots of information about weird goings-on by the Census Bureau. I have sought to have input from time to time over the years (here and elsewhere) but pretty much get ignored. Ann Ann V.
