Guest guest
I had a distal gastric bypass done here in Washington by Oh and Fox in 1994. A few years later I went to stay in Indiana for awhile and had some problems there; gallstone and acid reflux. I knew I had a staple line disruption before I went to Indiana because Dr. Oh did a scope and found it. I was unable to do it at the time, so I just waited. Anyway, I had a scope done in Indiana and was that I had a perfectly normal stomach, and I had, in fact not had a bypass!!! At this point, I didn't even attempt to argue about it. I just thought wow, so that's how they do it. It's all psychological. They just give you a few abdominal scars, tell you they did a bypass, and voila! the power of suggestion magically removes the weight! Wish I had known it was that easy. Guest guest
Gee, you and I must have the same surgeon! I stopped going to him at 6 weeks post because he blamed my slow weight loss for the first 6 weeks out on my eating mashed potatoes when I was sick, then one other time. He was very dismissive toward me when I brought up having heartburn, interrupting me saying, " You are eating too much... " I decided right after that that I wasn't going to go back, just because he was being a colossal jerk and not listening. I live in Amarillo, TX, and my surgeon is in Houston, so it wasn't hard at all coming up with an excuse not to go back. I have been a slow loser since week 6, averaging the first 12 months 7 lbs each. Now, I am hovering around 187-190. It is frustrating, but I am still trying to lose up until the 2 year mark. If I get there and I am still the same weight, then I will be seeing a doc for revision to a more distal bypass. I don't want to live life still 65-70lbs overweight. We do the best we can and my new doctor knows that, he didn't seem overly concerned I had only lost 57 lbs at the 4 month mark because I told him truthfully I was compliant. He accepted that and said sometimes people lose slower, as we are all different. One thing, I do think a lifetime of dieting and hypothyroidism contributes to my being a slow loser. But, as long as I lose, I will be happy. I know you will succeed, you just need to be patient with your body. And, try adding carbs when you are being faithful to the low carb eating and nothing happens. It sometimes shakes things up a bit and budges you off the plateau. > I can't believe how little I can eat compared > to everyone else (every around me is amazed also). Guest guest
But was it a good tool? That is the question. If you're gonna commute on the freeway, don't buy a skateboard. Know what I mean?
