Hi. My name is Lilka and I live in Marin, way far away from you. But

I have some thoughts about what you and Cathy are going through.

Before I started this process (now I am 3 months out) I contemplated

how to give up the food. I could not imagine my life without it. I

have not dieted in 10 years, after Optifast. So the idea of giving

up the food was monstrous to me. I cried just thinking of the

evenings without my food. The emptiness that I contemplated was like

a deep dark hole of tears. I ate all my favorite foods, telling

myself that soon I would never eat them again. This, at least gave

me my food. Finally a week after orientation, I let go. But that

emptiness would come creeping along, especially at night. And I

would say, Here I am in, what I was most afraid of. And it was not

pleasant. It was lonely. It was hurtful. Many nights I would just go

to bed. I could not handle anything. But I made it through and I am

making it through now. I watch TV. I paint some feeling. I meditate,

I listen to beautiful music, happy music. I write in a journal.I

send mesages to all of you. I read a lot. I try to make all of this

fun by keeping track of my food and my progress on fitday.Com.

Giving up the food. That is what we must learn to do. We have to

learn to look away. We have to learn to not even taste it. We have

to realize it is our drug, our crutch, our devil, our addiction. It

is trying to kill us. We have to let it go. This is the essence of

what we must learn and accept. Just let it go and fill the emptiness

with something else or get into bed and go to sleep. That is OK too.

Love to you. Lilka

Lilka I'm really glad you're not looking at food so much as a pleasure all the time. There are so many things in life to do that and it doesn't have to be food. You've taken such a better approach now, I'm very happy for you. Take care. DonnaLilka wrote: Hi. My name is Lilka and I live in Marin, way far away from you. Thank you so much, Lilka. That's just what I needed to hear. I know

how much you've struggled with this yourself, and I appreciate your

mentoring now. I've printed out your wonderful answer and I'm going

to put it in my binder to keep reminding myself of what I really need

to do!

Hi ,

First off . . . let me say a big " congratulations " on quitting smoking.

That is such a huge step in the right direction.

I've never really thought of myself as a mentor, but I'm willing to help

if I can.

I had my surgery in December of 2003 and I do live in San Leandro.

Here's hoping that we can get together - by phone or in-person.

Take care,

Kay (in San Leandro)

Dear Shika: Hi! I am so glad you liked Elaine , the therapist. Yes! She sees private clients (although I get my therapy for free due to the fact that my almost 4 year old is Autistic + we are really poor, poverty level, family of 7) I get it through the county with her. Anyway, yes, she has a regular practice and I've attached a scan of her card. Love, Jenn shikhaterry wrote: Jenn, that is so awesome. The therapist was soooooooooo awesome. Jenn, and Shika - I'm in Sacramento too and had my surgery on

Jan 31,2006. So far I have lost 76lbs since I started my journey. I

have gone from a size 26 pants to 18! If I can help any of you let me

know or give me a call 421-5066 home or at work at 830-4545. We have

all been where you are now so if you need to talk, give me a call.

Hi Peggy, I am not losing weight. I have been at 214 for a week. It is

very discouraging as I hve joined Curves, I am swimming again. I walk

more than ever and I am drinking almost all my water. I think I am not

processing fat. I eat a lot of cheese because it is fast and very

satisfying. I eat all kinds of cheese. I also eat tuna salad. These

days, I have started eating cucumers and red peppers. I am finally

going to the bathroom but still, no weight loss. What could I be doing

wrong? What do you eat? I have lost about 78 pounds since my surgery

on Jan 23. I am still a 1x, I think. I am 5'2 " . Maybe I am too

impatient. Fit day says I am losing about 2 pounds aweek but it seems

much slower. That includes the whole month. What do you think? Love,

78 pounds since January 23?!! I know it is discouraging but consider what 78 pounds looks like.stack up 7 almost 8, 10 lb sacks of sugar, that's the large ones, and visualize how much that is. That is an incredible amount of weight. I have not had surgery yet, but I am sure your body has to catch up. I just want to encourage you, and hopefully when and if I get there you will encourage me.Lilka wrote: Hi Peggy, I am not losing weight. I have been at 214 for a week. No, , 78 pounds since Aug 8th when I started this whole

process. I am happy, though and I just have to wait and accept

myself as I am. I hope to be able to encourage you some day, too.

Hi Lilka! I am not even close to surgery yet (15 or so more lbs. to lose before I MAY get a surgery date). BUT, maybe if you go with leaner proteins you might lose more weight. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said you are probably not processing the fat. Love, Jenn Lilka wrote: Hi Peggy, I am not losing weight. I have been at 214 for a week. Lilka You are doing great. Your body will come to a stop for a week or two trying to figure out why it's not getting so much food, then you will start to lose again even if it's not a lot of weight each week. The weight lose will continue just keep doing what you are and have patience, you really are doing good. You've come a long way baby. Take care. Donna J.Lilka wrote: Hi Peggy, I am not losing weight. Hi ,

I'm sorry that it has taken me so long to reply. Life just gets very

busy sometimes.

Anyway . . . sure . . . drop me a note at biddy@...

Maybe we can arrange to meet over a cup of tea sometime soon.

Take care,

Kay (in San Leandro)

I am at work from 9:30 - 6:15. If I don't answer, leave a message

and I'll call back. I am at home almost everynight and you can call

up to 10pm. Love to hear from you and chat.

Hi Lilka- I have lost 76lbs and I know what you mean about not fast

enought. Bout just think how LONGGGGGGG it took us to lose before

the surgery. I really can eat just about anything now only thing is

I only eat abut three bites. My husband says I'm a realy cheap date

now. I do drink only water and maybe a decaf tea or coffee once a

week. I do try and excercise 4-5 times a week but I admit I don't

always make that target. My weight has been coming off slowly this

last month but I am losing cloths sizes faster than I can buy new

ones. I have gone from a 26 pants to an 18, 4x to to 1x or even some

larges. So keep doing what you are doing and don't be so hard on

yourself. Pull out those fat pants and put them on, that will show

you just how far you have come. I think you are doing great! Keep it

up.

You make me feel all better, Peggy. I love this board because I can

complain and whine and worry right here so that I don't have to do

it with my husband or friends too much. Everyone is so assuring and

encouraging. Thank you so much. Do I understand you? One day a week

you only drink water? Wow. I look so forward to eating but then I

hurt my tummy all the time taking that one or two extra bites. I

have to go lie down. this is new to me as I never used to feel

hungry or full. I love having you nearby to talk with, Peggy. We are

almost twins except you are taller than me. I am only 5'2 " . O well.

Love, Lilka

No, I eat and drink water every day and only drink coffee once a week.

I'm good but not that good.
