The protocol is a BMI of 50 and over no co-morbidities needed or 40 with 2 or more co morbidities.

Once the referral is put in and you are either approved or denied. You are supposed to hear back from them within 2 to 3 weeks once the referral is submitted by you PCP.

If you are denied the next step is to appeal to Kaiser. If that gets denied then you would write your letter of appeal to the DMHC. Most always when you have to go to that last resort you are approved and Kaiser will do the surgery. We have in our files the information on the DMHC. So that will help if it comes down to going to that step in getting approved.

But do have your friend change providers at least so that she can get referred.
