Hi Fran,

I'm not sure if I replied to you or not.sorry. We had our computer in the

shop. I was checking email at work, but it doesn't show sent messages.

I met with Dr. West Nov. 4, 2004. He's the only orthognathic surgeon my

orthodontist would recommend. I live in Salem, OR. Dr. West was very nice,

as was his office staff.

I was hoping at that time to know how to go ahead with surgery, but he

wanted to wait until my bite stabilized. My front and side teeth used to

touch, but have changed position so only my back two molars touch (and not

very well). At first, they were looking at arthritis, bone degeneration,

osteoarthoses (sp), etc. The orthodontist thinks I have TMD. I think the

open bite is due to wearing an NTI splint on my front teeth to help

alleviate morning headaches because I grind my teeth.

The orthodontist had a funeral in Bellvue a month ago and Dr. West agreed to

meet him in Bellvue to discuss my case. They've decided my jaw has

stabilized (due to wearing a flat bottom mouth piece for three months at

night). I couldn't wear the mouth piece during the day because it was too

hard to talk and I would spit when I talked!

I had my spacers in yesterday and get full braces next Monday. The

orthodontist said surgery would be scheduled when my teeth are about 3 - 4

months away from being completely straight. At this point, I will have lower

advancement. Upper jaw surgery is questionable at this point; we'll see what

the braces accomplish.

Where are you in your journey?

Diane

Hi Diane,

That is one of the surgeons mentioned to me to use too! I live near

Tacoma. I am just in the process of the insurance issues right now

before I get going. Where are you in the process?

Fran
