Guest guest
I'm interested in a Livermore area support group and wanted to know if anyone else is interested. If we just had a few, we could e-mail and pick a day once a month that would work for all of us. If we have a larger group interested, maybe we could start an " official " group meeting on a regular day per month. Would anyone be interested in attending and/or helping to organize and facilitate? Guest guest
Hi Laurie, Yes, I am interested in a Livermore area support group. I know of 2 Kaiser post-ops and another pre-op who also live here. One of the post-ops (Joyce)has been trying to get a group started at the Livermore Kaiser, and even has a therapist there who would be involved if they can get comp time or pay authorized for her (I guess she isn't interested on a volunteer basis). I see Joyce at water exercise classes, and I will ask her this week if there is any progress with establishing the support group through Kaiser. If not, or in the meantime, we could get together on our own. I am willing to help organize. The middle of May would be a good meeting time for me. Guest guest
Sure I would love a Livermore Support Group. A year later, i am still struggling with the 10% and maybe some good support would help. Guest guest
Rosemarie, that's great! Let's do it! I'm having an endoscopy on the tenth, my sister gets in from out of state on the eleventh and is here till the seventeenth. I work nights, so if in the evening, I could do it on the 21st, a Sunday or the 27th, a Saturday. Or Sunday the 7th, if you wanted to do it sooner. Thanks! Guest guest
(((((Jeanne)))))) I remember your struggles. Did you ever get any answers either from your labs or from Fremont about changing the amount you had to lose or waiving it all together? Have you thought about contacting the DMHC for some support? I would love to get together with you. Laurie __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Laurie, Anytime the weekend of May 20 or 21 would be fine with me to start our mini support group. (I can't do 5/7, and you'll have company the following weekend.) We just need to narrow down a time and place, and then let others know. You are having an endoscopy on 5/10, and so am I on 5/18 PLUS a colonoscopy (ugh!). Those will be my last tests. I had a sonogram of my kidneys today, and an Echo-cardiogram last week. I am getting discouraged with trying to lose the 10%. I wanted it off by 5/18, and had only 12 more pounds to go. Because of my kidney disease and leg swelling, I was on two diuretics (including a high dosage of Bumex). The very day I had my Bariatric consult (4/7), I was called by internal medicine and told to discontinue one of the meds altogether, and cut the other back to 1/3 the dose, because my lab tests showed my Creatinine level had increased. I made the changes, so as to not further stress my kidneys, but have regained some fluid and weight. Every time I weigh myself, it seems to go up 1/2 pound. I have about 18 pounds to lose now, and feel as though I have less control over if and when it will come off. I am quite discouraged. Guest guest
Laurie, Don't get discouraged. You are doing fine. My kidney was not fuctioning well either before surgery but now it is absluetely fine. I thought I could never lose the weight but iI just kept plugging. What else was there to do? I ate my 1200 calories every day and finally it dropped off. It will for you too if you keep on keeping on. Guest guest
I don't mean Laurie. Guest guest
Hi Lilka, Thank you for taking the time to offer some encouragement when you are feeling a bit down yourself. (I was the one who wrote about the kidney probs and weight gain, not Laurie.) You have done tremendously well, losing 78 pounds in the last 3 months! I cannot even imagine that happening to me. Although you may be experiencing a lull, think of where you were a year ago, and that may put it all into perspective. You have come a long way. How long did it take for you to lose your 10%? Guest guest
Hi Rosemarie. Did you get my second message? I am sorry about that. I realized it right after I sent the first one. I started in Aug 8, 2005 and it took me about 5 months. I wanted it in 4 months but the last 5 pounds would not come off. Then I lost about 7. I was finally below their scale and I stayed there. After surgery, in which I gained 14 pounds, I went on to lose another 35 or so. I am in an extreme metabolic funk right now again and I am not sure what else I can do to change it. Remember, I am 65 so my body is particularly resistant. I feel thin, as I have said, so it is not so bad. People advise me to be patient. Curves tells me to eat more for a few days but, you know, I can't. My stomach just won't handle more. So I guess patience is the word. I am picking up my exercise routine, at least, and also waiting for more sun which I know is coming too. Love to you, Lilka > > > > Laurie, Don't get discouraged. You are doing fine. Guest guest
Hi Rosemarie, Would you like to throw out some ideas for times and places? I'm pretty easy...on the dates I'm available, that is! Sorry you are having so much trouble with swelling. Do you have kidney disease? Does your doc know about your swelling? You should keep him/her informed and ask for help whenever needed, especially if he is supportive of your upcoming surgery! Maybe there is something else that can be done about that. Take care, and I look forward to hearing from you! Laurie __________________________________________________
