Guest guest
Holly, These stats are hard to come by - the long term follow up from surgeries done on infants/children to adulthood is VERY slim. Dr. Dobbs in St. Louis has just completed such a study - he went to great lengths to track down patients who had surgery a minimum of 25 years ago to find out how they are doing now. The results were not good. I unfortunately don't have those statistics as they are not published yet. He is hoping to have the study published within the year. The best I can tell you is that there are a lot of adults out there (as evidenced by some of our group members, as well as the Yahoo group " TheFeetClub " ) who had surgeries to correct their clubfeet and have a lot of foot pain now as adults (myself included). We also know that there are many adults living pain free thanks to the Ponseti method correction of their clubfeet. There was a long term study done on a group of patients treated with Dr. Ponseti's method, age range of the participants was 25-42. They compared the patients' (45 clubfoot patients in the study) pain and function to that of ordinary people who did not have clubfoot, same age range. Of the people who did not have clubfoot, 85% said their feet were good to excellent. Of the clubfoot patients, 78% said their feet were good to excellent. There was also a correlation with those who did not rate their feet as good or excellent among both groups that related the problems they had to sedentary occupations and excessive weight gain. Hope this information is useful to you! > > Has anyone seen stats on what % of adults have foot pain after having > club foot surgery as a child? > > Thanks! > > Holly > Adopting Mia waiting in China >
