Guest guest
Hi folks, Raphael's getting close to done with his post-tenotomy cast (it comes off Monday), and so now we're looking forward to the brace. I'm wondering what kind of socks I should have for him, since I'd like to have them on hand. Any recommendations? Thanks, Toby 5/02 Raphael 9/05, lcf, tenotomy 10/

Guest guest
We have pretty much only used old navy socks. They are cheap, have the grips, come in enough sized to actually fit, and they seem to breathe well. > > Hi folks, > > Raphael's getting close to done with his post-tenotomy > cast (it comes off Monday), and so now we're looking > forward to the brace. Guest guest
old Navy and Baby Gap work great. Baby gap socks are thicker and I would use them more for winter months. Guest guest
Semi thick (not too thick though!) with the little grippers on the bottom. Like old navy or carters. You might want to get some extra pairs new or 2nd hand as I cut small holes in the front to begin with until I see how tight the strap needs to be. You can watch the toes that way. Cause you CAN turn them purple and cut the circulation off. Thats just to begin with though.. <ebender@sn wgitanfordalumni.org> wrote:Hi folks, Raphael's getting close to done with his post-tenotomy cast (it comes off Monday), and so now we're looking forward to the brace. Guest guest
Hi, How wonderful that the casting is almost over. Even though DBB probably feels daunting right now, it is amazing how well these little babies can get used to it and do everything in it. I think the hardest thing for us was the constant undoing of the shoes on those first two days just to check all was OK, and the hardest thing for Jasper to get used to was moving his feet together  but now he walks, crawls and climbs in the brace  he¹s 17 months old. With socks, Jasper seemed to prefer socks with no grippers on the bottom, but this is probably a personal comfort thing, all babies are different. Also important for him has been no seams in the sock, esp along the top of the toes as the pressure of the shoes digs the seams into the foot. Also we found that longer socks were good as we could fold them back down over the whole shoe after laced and tied, which both covered the laces from curious fingers and kept the ankle from having the elastic sock band dig in. Good luck with the shoes  it is so great to go from casts to shoes as you get to see those lovely feet every day and can rub moisturiser into those little legs. Warm wishes, Tamsin (mother to Jasper, 13 May, 2004, bilateral, DBB 14hrs) > Hi folks, > > Raphael's getting close to done with his post-tenotomy > cast (it comes off Monday), and so now we're looking > forward to the brace. Guest guest
, I have not found the need to use any special or particular sock with my son. We don't mess with gripper socks, either. The only thing I make sure of is that the toe-area doesn't have a seam that will bunch up and cause pressure. Everett has a wide variety of socks and they all get used under the FAB. s. Re: Socks for brace? Old Navy makes a very nice sock with a tight weave and grippers on the bottom. I love them. They are 7 pairs for $10 here, and have lots of colors. Just make sure whatever sock you use does not have a loose weave or it'll make a sock impression on her foot (you know the kind, the ones that make the top of your foot itch after being in shoes all day long) and make him uncomfortable. Old Navy, Baby Gap, and Gymboree socks are all very similar in weave, although Old Navy is the cheapest and my favorite. Good colors. I buy 20 pairs at a time and have only bought socks twice since Darbi was born (she'd getting close to 3!). I still have a ton of mismatched pairs and often she wears them mismatched! I can actually still use the 0-6mo socks on her in a pinch with her shoes too even if she couldn't wear them with regular shoes because they'd slip down into the shoe. The work fine with the very tight FAB shoes even when too small. We also use tights here in the winter. I used tights on my boys who were not CF when they were babes too. Keeps their little legs warm when being carried outside and the pants hike up (makes me cringe when I see little ones with bare legs in the winter... my relatives made fun of me but my boys legs weren't cold!! I found it interesting the other day catching a show on HBO showing AIDS victims in winter Russia with their son... who was wearing tights under his shorts!! HA!!). Tights have shown to be just fine in the shoes without any other socks for us.
