Guest guest
Thanks Kathleen I would be very interested in joining the ABS support group. Is it web based? And if so, can you point me in the right direction? Like you, I feel incredibly lucky that, while my baby will have a couple of challenges to overcome, he appears to be an otherwise healthy, active baby. Like you say, things could have been much worse! How has coped with his challenges? Has he taken it all in his stride? And have the treatments been successful? Thanks again for your advice. Guest guest
Kath- Here is a link to the group: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/ABS_support/?yguid=206082053 With 's ABS, he has had one surgery so far to " release " the bands on his wrist and his index finger-this was at 9 mo of age. The procedure was called z-plasty. He was to have his second surgery 12 weeks later-however, his ortho was so impressed with the results, he decided to postpone the second z plasty until next summer. His thumb may be lengthened prior to his starting school(via a bone graft)- however, at his age now (14 mo), he is pretty even in " handedness " - the shortened right thumb has not slowed him down. The one thing our orthos have taught us is that since he was born with a partial thumb/no right big toe-he would adapt to these situations and utilize them in a way we would be amazed by. Neither missing digit has slowed him down nor has his bilateral clubfeet. I too questioned myself and my pregnancy and wondered if there was anything I could of done to prevent it-however, my pregnancy was problem free, morning sickness free, and wonderful so I realized it wasn't my fault, that it was just meant to be. has taught us soo much in these short 14 mo-more than I have ever learned at school! You will be amazed(he is our first). Hope this helps! Guest guest
Hi again Kathleen That's great news that 's surgery's and talipes treatment have gone so well! He sounds like a brilliant little boy who is just getting on with it! Through all the reading I have been doing, and the stories I am hearing from parents like you, I am beginning to realise that like , our baby will adapt to whatever the ABS and Talipes throws at him. I am also trying not to beat myself up about what I should or shouldn't have done to prevent this. Like you, my pregnancy has been wonderful with little morning sickness (2 weeks) and feeling fit and healthy the entire way through. I am also trying not to worry about what may come in the next 18 or so weeks! I hope this gets easier as the pregnancy progresses! ;o)) I will join the ABS group too. Probably see you there! And thanks again for you positive advice. It certainly is helping.
