Guest guest
Kathy, I see in your emailadd says frommass. May I ask which hospital and doctors you are using? DM kathyfrommass wrote: My son is 6 years old and we did the Ponseti Method all went well but now he is growing fast and needs more castings did anyone have the same problems. The doc suggests 3 weeks of recasting weekly and back to a night brace. Please help. Thank you
Guest guest
Unfortunately, I can't give you any first hand experience, but I know from the research I have seen relapses are rare at this age, but I think the number are around 10%. What age did he stop wearing the brace at night? They are now recommending until at least 3, but most say 4 or 5. I don't know when this change occured, but I know it is because they were seeing relapses more frequently than they would like in children on this age. I hope someone else is able to give you more info.! 11/19/04 kathyfrommass wrote: My son is 6 years old and we did the Ponseti Method all went well but now he is growing fast and needs more castings did anyone have the same problems. Guest guest
Kathy, I think it is rare for children to relapse at this age but not unheard of. I believe Dr. Morcuende from Iowa just recently told us that they have seen relapses up to age 10, but the incidence is very low. It actually sounds like your doctor is doing the most conservative approach in recasting and resuming bracing. I do know that they've been having much success with recasting even at older ages and thus doing fewer ATTT's. Hope this helps, kathyfrommass wrote: My son is 6 years old and we did the Ponseti Method all went well but now he is growing fast and needs more castings did anyone have the same problems. Guest guest
Hi, and welcome to the group! While relapses at age 6 are rare, they do happen. I'm glad to read that your doctor is considering recasting as a first step- that's a good sign. Dr. Ponseti and Dr. Morcuende (his colleague in Iowa) have been doing a lot of work on relapses and conservative treatment of them in older children. Do you know if your doctor regularly consults with them or would be willing to consult with them about your son's case? We look forward to hearing from you and seeing updates about your son!
