Unfortunately, I can't give you any first hand experience, but I know from the

research I have seen relapses are rare at this age, but I think the number are

around 10%. What age did he stop wearing the brace at night? They are now

recommending until at least 3, but most say 4 or 5. I don't know when this

change occured, but I know it is because they were seeing relapses more

frequently than they would like in children on this age.

I hope someone else is able to give you more info.!

Kathy,

I think it is rare for children to relapse at this age but not unheard of. I

believe Dr. Morcuende from Iowa just recently told us that they have seen

relapses up to age 10, but the incidence is very low. It actually sounds like

your doctor is doing the most conservative approach in recasting and resuming

bracing. I do know that they've been having much success with recasting even

at older ages and thus doing fewer ATTT's.

Hope this helps,

Hi, and welcome to the group!

While relapses at age 6 are rare, they do happen. I'm glad to read

that your doctor is considering recasting as a first step- that's a

good sign. Dr. Ponseti and Dr. Morcuende (his colleague in Iowa) have

been doing a lot of work on relapses and conservative treatment of

them in older children. Do you know if your doctor regularly consults

with them or would be willing to consult with them about your son's

case?

We look forward to hearing from you and seeing updates about your son!

Regards,
