Guest guest
Hi Kim! We love the s. My son, 5 mos old today, went to s b/c of the falling out of shoes Markells and had to be recasted to correct relaspe. No transition period really, they are so comfortable I think, he didn't mind them. They are so light in comparison to cast and the Markells with DBB. I did see some one post about using varnish, I did not think of that, but I guess you could do that to make the straps stiffer when going through the buckle. Yes, BCBS should pay on your s but more than likely you will have to file the claim yourself and I have done. Here is instructions on what you will need should you do it on your own: Basically you need a letter of medical necessity, a written prescription for a life time for a Ponseti abduction brace and custom AFO(shoes) to maintain correction, and then an invoice from and a claim form you can print off the BCBS websie or call and have them mail you one. Fill the claim form out(make a copy for you), send copies of the letter and prescription, not originals, of all the above and wait for them to process the claim. It took about 20 days fir them to process and send us a check. However, this could apply to deductibles if your child has not met the yearly deductible. You would have to check your plan's benefits. That is it in a nutshell. It is important and crucial to follow the steps or it will be denied. IF ou need help in filling out the claim form let me know and I am happy to help. We are seeing Dr. Herzenberg (love him....) now and all was well with Maddie until about 2 weeks ago. She started slipping out of the right shoe (Markells). I adjusted, re-adjusted, tightened, and then when I was finished, I would have to adjust again. Dr. Herzenberg wanted to see her, so we went in this morning. The PT that works with him put Maddie's shoe on... it could still slip out. HE put her shoes on and commented... " there Houdini, now try to get out. " Sure enough, her foot could still slip out. Ah, it was not just me :) Maddie is now almost 5 months old and rolling all over the place with her shoes and bar. Typically, no problems when she is sleeping, but every once in a while, that shoeless right foot makes an appearance. So today, Dr. Herzenberg decided that we should switch to the s. Now my question..... What do I need to know about the s? I know that those that have them, love them! We did the impressions today with Dr. H and off they go to Iowa. For other patients of Dr. H, he now keeps some of the impression kits at his office. So, my understanding is that in a couple of weeks a mini pair of berkenstock -like sandals will show up at my house. Once they arrive, we will go see Dr. H again to get situated. Is there any major adjustment period b/w the Markells and s? Do I need to do anything to the sandals (I saw a post regarding varnish)? Are there any funny nuances about these shoes that I should expect? Does BCBS really cover them? So many questions... We has such a bad transition into the Markells (really b/c of the previous doctor), I am just trying to find out as much information a head of time. THANKS!!!!
