Guest guest
That's good news! s. Today's Visit Hi All - Hayden went for his second casts today and it went really well, even better than I had hoped. Dr. Pirani looked at both of his feet and then informed me that the right is fully corrected - after JUST ONE CAST! He said it is ready for the tenotomy, but we now have to wait for the left to catch up first, so it will be in maintenance casts until then (most likely the end of the month). He said we may have to figure out why the left is so far behind the right because they shouldn't be that asymmetrical. In the meantime, while he is away in Uganda for two weeks, we will be in the hands of his trusty assistant and then I am really hoping that the appointment we have with Dr. Pirani on the 29th will be " the one " . I am very nervous about it, but at the same time I want to get to that point because it's another milestone in Hayden's treatment. Hayden was pretty good for the visit. He got a little fussy so I nursed him to sleep and then we got started. Unfortunately my hubby called on the cell right then and he woke up and got kind of irate for the first part of the first cast. I told Dr. P that it was still not the kind of crying he did at " the other place " and that I could handle a little bit of it. He very delicately told me that even though how I feel is important, it really wasn't about me - lol! He said that he wants to know if Hayden is crying because he is hurting him or pressing too hard or if he is just mad at being held onto. I said that since he calmed down fairly quickly, it was probably the latter as he was quite happy afterwards. So here we are. I am so glad I made the change and it was good to see such quick results. Dr. P said he was very pleased with the right foot. Yay!
Guest guest
, that is awesome news! I'm just curious though...were there any problems with the skin on his legs that you noticed this time when the casts were removed? Thanks for the update - please keep us posted! Guest guest
Hey , Just wanted to say again, how nice it was to see you and your sweetie the other day! It is just amazing that his right foot was brought to full correction in 1 cast!!! It really goes to show how well these feet respond to casting by an experienced Ponseti doctor!! I am sure that his left foot will come along quickly and he is gonna be out of these casts before you know it! He is just such a sweet little baby, soo happy that he is more comfy now and on the right path!!!!! tc and ttys & Grace > > Hi All - Hayden went for his second casts today and it went really > well, even better than I had hoped. Guest guest
Thanks Daiga and also thanks for asking about his skin, which was the one thing I forgot! There was the tiniest bit of skin breakdown behind his left knee which more or less resembled heat rash than anything else. It was nothing compared to what it was before. Also, because he has such deep creases around his big toes, they were a little red and irritated, but Dr. Pirani assured me it was from moisture (like sweating) and that I could just use a blow dryer on the cool setting to dry them out once in awhile. All in all I was very pleased with the outcome. No doubt the cooler weather helped the skin situation, but I also feel very strongly that it is because of the lighter casts. They had only two layers rather than three or four. I'm just really, really happy about all of this. I want to point out too that each time Hayden got upset, that Dr. Pirani stopped what he was doing and waited for me to soothe him rather than forging on and just letting him cry. I feel that his patience in this matter is what counts. Sure he has a lot of patients to see - so did Dr. Alvarez - but the difference is that he does not sacrifice the emotional health of the child in order to " just get things done " and I see that he would rather get behind in his visits than rush through it. This is probably what the main problem at Children's was. It's all good! --- Daiga Grady wrote: --------------------------------- , that is awesome news!
