Guest guest
oh Joy, I'm so sorry you are having this worry and extra stress. Do you have the strength and time to push it with the insurance company? surely being casted by dr. ponseti can't be that much more than the casting by Dr. Koop.. they're just not approving it because it's out of network, or whatever they call it. you could make a case that casting by dr. ponseti could minimize any major surgeries down the road, which of course would be much more expensive than casting. i also encourage you to spill your worries about this to joyce and whomever else at UIHC you can.. maybe they can help you figure out a way. Also talk to Dr. Ponseti personally.. i know he'd want to discuss it with you. I'm so sorry.. you don't need this worry. but don't give up yet! hang in there.. > > I'm really not sure what I'm going to do now. Guest guest
I know what you're talking about Joy. We pay out of pocket for the kids to see Ponseti and the cost keeps going up. I finally had to humble myself and ask 's father for help with his part of the bill - the first time in 7 years the man has paid a thing towards the boy, but thankfully he agreed and sent some $ to the clinic. If baby #3 here is cf I think I may have to look in to a Shriner's option instead and that will be hard to do after seeing Ponseti himself all this time. I " m no help and i wish you the best, I just mean you're not alone with the financial strain. s. Feeling stressed and not sure what to do I'm really not sure what I'm going to do now. Our insurance will not approve Grant (or Rose for that matter!) to be seen by Dr. Ponseti, so I will have to pay out of pocket. I heard back today, and I'm shocked! I don't think we can afford to pay out of pocket, so I'm not sure what my next step is going to be. A returning visit (for Rose) is $297. Which seems a bit steep. For a new patient visit it will be $341. If Dr. Ponseti decides to cast Grant it will be $448 for each leg. it would total up to over 1500 dollars. Is it worth a consult with Dr. Ponseti?? Grant has so many issues besides the clubfoot, and I'm starting to doubt whether I " need " to have Dr. Ponseti look at it or not. I know I WANT Dr. Ponseti to reassure me that the treatment is going well, but then I think what if he doesn't?? argh! Is the method successful with spina bifida? am I going to have to reassess my expectations of clubfoot treatment for Grant? Dr. Koop does seem to be having success, and I'm quite pleased with the progress so far, but I have my concerns and worries. In all of this I've been thinking how hard it is to see a Ponseti doctor after having seen Dr. Ponseti Himself. LOL We certainly can't afford to pay out of pocket. I can't believe it's 300 dollars just to see Rose! We'll come up with that, and possibly we can come up with the other 350, but wow. Just needed to unload that. Guest guest
Aw you'r too sweet! Dr. Dobbs was going to be my 2nd choice (after Ponseti!). It would be nice to have someone there to show me around. I just got word my midwife got a Level 2 ultrasound approved for me, no date yet, but maybe that will let me know for sure one way or the other. s. Guest guest
ee, If needed, and I know it would be difficult after seeing dr. Ponseti, but you could always see Dr. Dobbs at Shriners. Just a little closer to you - and then maybe we could get together sometime while you are in St. Louis! Not that you are going to need it for the new baby...still keeping my fingers crossed for you on that one! --- number23 wrote: > I know what you're talking about Joy. Guest guest
, don't take this the wrong way but frankly I hope we don't have any reason to meet you or Dr. Dobbs in St. Louis! ha ha..... If we do though, I'd be honored to have you as our guide! I actually went to St. Louis once as a child, I have vague memories of going up in the Arch and have tried many times to convince my dh to take us home from Iowa via St. Louis so I could see it again. Guest guest
Hi there, My name is Bri and I have a 3 year old ( 4 this month ) who has leftclubfoot. We used to have a doctor back home who took care of him till he moved out of state. Now we have moved and seeing a new doctor. I think it's because I am not used to how other doctor's deal with clubfoot and got to used and trusting with our old doctor, but i am not satisfied with what he has to say or how the visits are. I read this little e-mail and saw that you are in St. Louis. I live in Kansas City Kansas and am not to far. I would if you could get more info on Doc Dr. Dobbs, or if anyone can tell me about Dr. Ponsetti ( sp ) I am close to both. All I want is to get the proper treatment for my son and the beable to walk out after the visit knowing that the doctor did good. I am used to traveling ( had to back home for all of his doctors and my husbands ) so that is not a problem. Also his doctor has said that he might want to do botox on him. I have looked it up but don't see anything about the shot and clubfoot. ( lol not that good at lookin up things I guess ). If someone knows anything about this could you please give me some info on this? Guest guest
Poor Bri, I can't imagine what you're going through. I wish I knew a doc to suggest but I don't. Can your dh 's doctor look at your son knownig there is a family link? As for the botox, some docs are experimenting with it but as far as the Ponseti Method of treatment, botox is not part of that and shouldn't be necessary. s.
