Guest guest
Hello! Once again I am desperately seeking a doctor for my autistic 3 year old and my allergic (ADD?) 6 year old. I have finally decided I need an allergist, someone who understands brain allergies and allergies to chemicals. I am willing to go anywhere in the country. If you can recommend someone I would really appreciate it. Has anyone have an opinion on Dr. Layton? Has anyone else been frustrated over finding a doctor? I keep thinking we need a doctor database where everyone who visits a doctor can report their opinions (anonymously) to help the rest of us decide. I don't have money to waste searching anymore! If enough people are interested in this, I may be able to implement it. Thanks!!!!! Booth PS Does anyone know how to contact Doris Rapp? Guest guest
Hi. I've had the same trouble and tell you some of the options I have used and see if any of them will work for you. Others may have some other suggestions. I tried going with the conventional specialists like allergy and GI folks and they laughed in my face. A big waste of time and cop-pays for me. If the American Academy of Pedi doesn't advocate most aren't interested- I've found. There is a Defeat Autism Now (DAN) list of folks who have gone to some of conferences. You still need to be careful because they will tell you they follow the DAN protocol for allergies/metals/yeast and stuff and then you may found out they don't. I had this experience. A wasted $250.00. I got the DAN manual myself at autism.com. It's $25.00- a bargain! I gave it to my ped. I am hoping she will do a basic work up to get me started. On the site there is also a list of DAN doctors nationwide. Try and find a reputable one. Word of mouth, calling the office, do they lecture etc. Unfortunately lots of the good one's have waiting lists. My appt is Jan 2, 2002. The good news is I found I need to be very knowledgable in order to advocate for my Sammy. So I can ask the right questions, and be able to analyze and understand the answers. Bill Shaw's book has helped me. So Lord help that DAN doc when I see her because I will have an armful of questions. Some other folks have told me doctors w/ NAET can be helpful also. I think some of the muscle testing for allergies may be unconventional. I don't care for it, but many parents seem pleased with the results. Dr Rapp has a web site, I think it is drrapp.com or drdorisrapp.com. I understand she is semi-retired but does consulting. If your pedi is interested in helping you out maybe Rapp can mentor him/her long. distance. If anyone else has any ideas- we are both all ears and eyes! Hope that helped some.
