Guest guest
I just came back from the mall with Noah. ( we went to get new shoes for him) He dosen't need the AFO'S anymore so we thought some new cool lookin shose would be a good treat for him. He has been in casts, Afo's and braces for so long that I haven't really been watchin what size his feet are. We have allways gotten his shose bigger to fit the braces and the afo's. So when we got the I asked the sales clerk if she would do a proper fit for him. I found out that his good foot is a 10 and his lcf is 8 in a half!! I had her check it twice. Sure enough it was true. She told me that we could try for the bigger size and pray that it would stay on his ankle. We did and it did work, but there is so much room in his cf shoe. But I could not afford to buy 2 set's off shose. My huband wanted to switch them around ( they wouldn't know) but I was afraid that we would and said we would go for the size 10s for now and I would talk to the group and see what they had to say. So here I am lookin for some advice that won't take me to the bank. Will this be somethin that we have to deal with all his life? I think I have read something on a store that would seel u a set 2 different sizes, but I am not sure, at this point it could have been a dream. I am not all that rich and have money payin for all his doctors and for all the doctors my husband needs. So payin for 2 sets of shose is not in the picture at this point. I will do it if I have to, Do I?? Bri.
Guest guest
Unfortunately, yes, it's probably something that you're going to have to make allowances for. If you're very lucky, the size difference may decrease as he gets older, but I don't believe it's likely to catch up significantly. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong...) Several unilateral clubfoot kids (and some bilateral ) have the same problem. Sorry for the bad news... I've heard of somewhere that sold two sizes too, but I'm not sure who it was. Hopefully, someone else on the boards will get back to you with that info... Good Luck. faith > wrote: I just came back from the mall with Noah. Guest guest
Hi Bri, I think a size difference is very common. At least that's what my son's doctor told us. She also told me that she usually tells people to stuff a spare sock down the shoe that's too big. I haven't tried it myself (my son has only half a size difference, he's 3 years old) but it might be worth trying. Other than that I think people mentioned that Nordstrom (or something similar) sells different sized pairs. I'm in the UK so I wouldn't know but I'm pretty sure that was the name (might be an expensive shop though, so maybe not such a good deal, I don't know...). All the best, with (3y) and Alister (3y, RCF, Ponseti method, UK) --- Bri wrote: > I just came back from the mall with Noah. Guest guest
You could buy two pairs of inexpensive shoes at a place like Walmart or Target or Payless and just use one shoe from each pair. If they're only $10 or so a pair, that could be cheaper than a special or split order. Here are two sites which might help: http://www.inchwormshoes.com/ These are some very interesting shoes which another parent alerted us to just recently that 'grow' with the child, are adjustable in length. http://preschoolians.com/ Here you can buy two different sizes, I believe, to make a pair just the way you need it. Nordstrom is the dept. store that will split sizes. (Switching the sizes yourself is not something I'd do, personally.. and, besides, stores usually check the sizes when you pay.) Guest guest
Nordstrom will sell you two different sized shoes. Here's another suggestion though: My son was born with a unilateral club foot his left foot (healthy foot)is a half size larger than his right(club foot). When he first started walking I really wanted both shoes to fit properly, and I wanted to be able to shop in more than one store. So, I drafted a letter detailing my son's foot problem (clearly stating that his feet are two different sizes as the result of a medical condition), then I asked his Dr. (Dr. Godfried/Schneider's Children's Hospital/LI, NY) to put the letter on hospital stationary and sign it. (So the letter is from a dr., not just from a mom). I bring the letter to the shoe store with me, or send it to their " main office " to get approval on selling two different sized shoes. (at Target for example, I don't know whether a store manager would have the authority to sell two different sizes, they might tell you to get the okay from the main office.) I also asked about this at a stride rite outlet near my home. The store manager said that if I bring him the letter, he would fax it to his bosses and see if they would okay breaking up a set. I hope this is helpful. If you would like to see a copy of my letter, e-mail me your e-mail address, and I'll try and send my letter to you via attachment. > > I just came back from the mall with Noah. Guest guest
We used to have luck at Nordstrom with my daughter, whose feet differ by only 1/2 a size, but at least at my nearest store, the new policy is that they will only split pairs if the difference is 1 full size or more (so it sounds like you would qualify). Also, Preschoolians (www.preschoolians.com) has a generous " twins " policy that they extend to club foot families - they sell you the second pair for 80% off (I was told by another mom that they may require a doctor's note but they've never asked me for one). Hope that helps! -Elissa > > > > I just came back from the mall with Noah. Guest guest
Thank you so much for your reply. I have never heard of Nordstorm, can you look them up online? And yes I would like a copy of the letter. My e-mail is shelikesembigboytoys@.... Bri kmoore608 wrote: Nordstrom will sell you two different sized shoes. Guest guest
What we have done in the past - but it unfortunately gets harder as they get older - is to choose a " classic " style, that is something that they have been making forever and are likely to go on making forever and is available in many sizes. We chose white leather high-tops. Next, you are going to buy two pair .... because you are looking at a 2 size difference, you may want to go with one a bit big and one just right - so, say a 9 and 10. PUT AWAY THE SECOND SHOE OF THE BIGGER SIZE. Now, when the normal foot outgrows the shoe, you will have to get a new pair, but you just keep the other foot in the same shoe, or move it up to the next size ... so if he was wearing 9 and 10, he would then be wearing a 9 and 11 or a 10 and 11, whichever was most comfortable for him. You can also start off by buying one pair, waiting for the bigger foot to outgrow them, then buying another pair, fitted to the larger foot, in the same style and continue on that way. More recently we have just coped tho. Kai likes having a different kinds of shoes, so he has had to learn to compensate for wearing one shoe that is too large (he has 1.5 size difference) How could I have missed this I just came back from the mall with Noah. Guest guest
Nordstroms will let you buy 2 different shoe sizes. I know they aren't the cheapest, but it is better than buying to sets of shoes. Bri wrote: I just came back from the mall with Noah. Guest guest
Has anyone purchased shoes yet from http://www.inchwormshoes.com yet? If so how are they? Are they easy to adjust? It is my understanding every pair is about $40 and is really 3 sizes for example a 9, 9.5, & a 10 all in one. I was thinking about ordering a pair in the next size so Collin will have them when he outgrows his shoes. Also how do I find out if his feet are average for his age, I just want to know out of curiosity, not because I'm concerned. He turned 4 in August and is in a size 10 (still can wear his old 9.5's though) he says they don't squish his feet but I can tell they do I just keep forgeting to throw them away while he's sleeping. Guest guest
Michele, my son has two non-clubfoot feet and he is 4 1/2 years old. He is wearing a 9.5 or 10 shoe size depending on the type of shoe. All feet are different, but I think that his foot size is fine for his age. michele_and_collin wrote: Has anyone purchased shoes yet from http://www.inchwormshoes.com yet? If so how are they? Guest guest
I think it really depends on how tall he is, there is also a genetic factor at work here. If his dad and you have small feet and are of short stature, chances are that his feet will be on the small side. If you are tall with large feet, he is going to have big feet. My sisters son just turned 6 and wears a boy's 4! Boys are ususlly closer to that size at around 10 yrs old lol. She is over 6 feet tall and wears an 11 and a half shoe, so of course Jhori's feet are going to be big, he is also really tall. Not sure if this helped answer your question in anyway lol...you could ask his doctor at his next appt if his feet appear to be an average size for his age & Grace =)
