Guest guest
Hi, I've posted about this previously and we're having the same thing all over again. My wife's now picking up our son from his ABA pre-school after the nurse called. He's got 100 degree temperature and she said " his chest is tight " . The nurse is afraid of asthma. He's been diagnosed with asthma but hasn't needed the albuterol more than once or twice since the diagnosis. What I finally noticed was that several days to a week after a diet infringement, he'd develop some wheezing, maybe accompanied by a low grade fever. These symptoms have gotten less severe with each incident. I think that this may be a part of his withdrawal from the gluten. We were on vacation two weeks ago and my son got cereal w/ no milk several times over the week. His behavior has improved over the last few days; last night he developed a cough. Today he's seeing the doctor because of this mild fever and wheezing. I am interested in hearing about others, if they've seen similar things in their kids. Guest guest
According to research I did when starting gfcf (3/00), mostly through the Center for Science in the Public Interest, wheat & milk are common allergens & can trigger asthma attacks in some people. My child & I are both gfcf, and previously had almost constant " colds " , sinusitis, ear infections (mostly my child), and several bouts of pneumonia. All that quickly improved, then vanished once gfcf. I've recommended gfcf - and at least cf - to many friends with chronic sinus problems, and those that have strictly observed cf have reported great improvement, too, with just a little cream in their coffee triggering immediate congestion. > Hi, > > I've posted about this previously and we're having the same thing all over > again. I told my wife I felt this may be withdrawal from gluten which our son got while on vacation... it's now a week and two days after we returned from vacation. He's home today because he's still breathing hard, although he seems much more 'right' behaviorally as well as in his mood. My wife relayed this thought to the doctor who said that a week later seems too long for a reaction. But I think the point is that this isn't an allergic reaction but rather drug withdrawal. And for that I don't think a week is too long. Would anyone else care to comment? BTW, he also has an ear infection which he hasn't had in months, and has developed eczema behind his right ear which we first noticed during vacation two weeks ago.
