Why do they have to staple you??? I had sutures...which came out in 5

days....no pain...no zippered effect...LOL I'm sure there are other

alternatives than staples. One gal in my support group had some sort of

adhesive on the outer skin...no sutures or staples could be seen.

Hi,

I also can't let any metal touch my skin. But I had an ovary removed open,

and they closed me with staples; no problems.

I am 11 months post op and I have not had an enternal reaction to the

staples, and trust me they are there. I saw them when I had my back X

rayed. So in my case it just effects the outer layer of skin.

I am sure you will get better answers from other members. I had the same

reaction earrings and had a terrible infection. I discovered that have some

metal allergies and cannot wear jewelry unless it is gold.......seriously

(at least that is what I tell my husband).

About your concerns: Have you thought of contacting the manufacturer of the

staples and/or the FDA. The maker would have been required to produce

studies and indications for any type of surgical product (this includes

surgical instruments as well). I am sure there would have been tests or

protocols necessary to indicate body reactions. If nothing else this would

ease your fears. If the doctor doesn't know the company name, I would image

that the hospital purchasing department would know where they are

manufactured.

Just a thought.

Thank you so much for responding and for sharing your experience. I really

have been so concerned about how the stomach staples would affect me but it

sounds like it hasn't been a problem for you. Again, thanks!

Hi

Thanks for responding to my post. I guess I am more worried about the metal

stomach staples that are used internally since I don't know how they will

react. I just know that outside on my skin, anything metal drives me to

distraction!

thanks again

Hi Sheryl

I guess maybe the kind of metal they use in the staples doesn't cause

allergies...at least I hope so, lol!

thanks

Hi Kathie

Contacting the manufacturer is a great idea! That's why this list is the

best, so many great thoughts and ideas!

Since you had your surgery already, I guess you didn't have a reaction to the

staples? I mean nothing that you notice? I can't imagine even if I did have

a reaction what it would be (maybe my insides would itch? lol) but I guess

I'm more worried about it deteriorating my stomach or something equally

strange.

thanks!

From what I understand they use titanium staples internally. I also get an

allergic reaction when certain metals touch my skin!
