Guest guest
Hi All I am a long time serial lurker and I do love reading all the posts. I have been scheduled for the DS surgery 3 times, and due to various circumstances, I have had to cancel each time. I am hoping that I will be able to move forward within a few months! My problem (btw, this is unrelated to why I have had to cancel surgery) is that I have very bad contact dermititis. Basically that means that I have a severe allergic reaction to metals touching my skin. For instance, I can't wear earings that aren't gold. Brass buttons on jeans are a problem. Even a little bit of metal on a bra is big problem. My skin breaks out very quickly in a nasty, itchy rash and gets very red - sometimes it even bleeds. I am concerned about the staples that are used to close the stomach. I've talked to the surgeon about this and he said he's never heard of a reaction. I even talked to my dermatologist and he said he just had no idea. I realize that my stomach is not quite my skin per se, however, I can't help but worry. Any thoughts - or if anyone else with a metal allergy has had the DS or other surgery where metal was put inside your body - would be greatly appreciated. Sorry this so long! Thanks and ciao!
