Hiya i!

Having just finished reading " Fast Food Nation " , I wouldn't say

fast foods are " good " for anyone, not even DS patients. I don't

eat fast food now and I won't after surgery unless absolutely

necessary. Fast food is " good " for a DS patient in that DSers

don't absorb as much of the fat calories as someone who hasn't

had surgery.

I was curious so I did a comparison between a Whopper and a

burger I would make at home. The only positive I could see to

the Whopper (aside from convenience) was 5 extra grams of

protein and 191 extra milligrams of calcium. BTW, I worked at

Burger King in high school. I can assure you they do not give you

a 3oz beef patty. Their own web site says 2.6oz, and that's

probably before cooking. =) -

Burger King Whopper w/ Cheese w/ everything

785 calories

33 g protein

48 g fat

55 g carbs

1635 mg sodium

250 mg calcium

300 mg cholesterol

3oz extra lean ground beef, 2 slices of whole wheat bread,

catsup (or ketchup?), onion, tomato and lettuce:

362 calories

28 g protein

16 g fat

32 g carbs (from everything but the beef)

299 mg sodium

59 mg calcium

71 mg cholesterol (from the beef)
