Guest guest
From time to time here we discuss whether or not to talk with others around us about our surgeries and what we're doing. I tend to be pretty open about my plans and tell a lot of people although I know lots other people are more private than I am. However, one of the real benefits for me is discovering other people who either have had the surgery or who are getting ready for the surgery and who serve as a support network. For example, I belong to a historical re-creation group, the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), and I spent this weekend up at a major event in Northern California. At one point someone asked if I wanted to eat a yummy- looking dessert that was being passed around, and I said " No thanks " and explained why. It turned out that two other people in that small group were going through RNY - one has his surgery today, another had had it a year or so ago! I work for Jcpenney catalog and because it's sit down work and they don't discriminate based on weight there are a LOT of overweight people there. A fair number of people who have had the surgery too which has been really motivating for me.
