Guest guest
1st look into your ins. Some will cover both, some will cover one but not the other and some won't cover either. The differences in the 2 are that DOC centers treat ONLY plagio/brachy where as Hanger centers treat all sorts of orthotics/prostetic issues. So the knowledge of the ortho treating your baby is different. ANd experince of the ortho is KEY!!! Also, from what I have read here (and personal experience) I think that the quality control for ban production at CT is top notch... where at hanger it seems hit and miss. You can read through old messages to see what others have said. My dd had 2 hanger bands. If I knew then what I know now, I would have gotten her a DOC. My dd had mild/mod plagio and tort. She has skull base asym and that is the hardest/last to correct. So while we did see some improvment in her plagio, I sometimes wonder what better correction my dd would have recieved if we had gone with a more experinced ortho/band. HTH! Let us know what you decide! Jen Mom to Luli - 3 yrs old Torticollis, Plagio, Syringomyelia Cranial Tech vs. Hanger Just wondering what people's thoughts were on the different companies. We are fortunate enough to live in an area where both places are located. Guest guest
Thanks so much!! It really helps to hear what others have gone through. Our son also has tort so I know this isn't going to be easy. He has been in PT for almost 2 months and although the tort is looking MUCH better he has a flat side of the head. The PT had recommended the helmet and we are just wait to meet with our pedi in 3 weeks to see what she thinks. I know however a helmet is in our future. Luckly this was caught very early as he isn't even 4 months old yet. I am still looking for suggestions for sleeping. I have been putting him on his right side since the left is the side that is flat to give that side a break and he is always finding a way to roll back onto his back with his head turned to the left ( also his tort side) PLEASE HELP!!! I am looking for suggestions!!!! I have done towel rolls, and blanket rolls. THANKS On 4/21/09, JenandLuli@... <JenandLuli@...> wrote: 1st look into your ins. Guest guest
I'm conflicted about this because there is a Hanger office literally around the corner, and CT is 3 1/2 hours away. But ultimately, I've done a tone of research and CT seems so consistently good, while Hanger seems to have mixed results. I don't want to have sub-par results or need another band because we had an inexperienced orthotist, so we're sticking with CT. Good luck with whatever you decide! Guest guest
I had a god awful experience with hanger and recommend them to no one! Part of the issue is they don't specialize like CT does. All CT does is helmets. Guest guest
I will say that Hanger is really hit or miss, they are probably the ones we hear the most negative stories about, but it's definitely not all Hanger orthos. A lot of people have had great success with Hanger. So it's really important to check in to your ortho's experience, find out how many babies they treat for plagio/brachy a month, year, etc. You can also ask for before and after photos and references of other parents that went through them. Or you can post your location here and see if anyone has used the same ortho, or check our Database for a listing of orthos (not all will be there, but you might luck out). BTW, anyone can add their ortho info and experiences on that page and I would encourage you to do so for easy reference. Some parents don't have a choice in where they seek helmet treatment because of location and/or insurance coverage/finances. We did have a local STARBand option (90% coverage with our insurance) but I felt better going to CT (75% coverage) 2.5 hours away. Cranial Tech does specialize in banding, they see probably 30-40 babies a day (at least) at each location, so that's obviously a huge benefit. If your Hanger ortho only treats one plagio baby a month or something like that, I may be concerned that he doesn't have the ideal experience (though of course, that's not a given either). You just have to make the best decision that's right for you and go with your gut extinct. Jake-2.5 (DOCBand Grad 9/08) Jordan-5 > > > > > > > > > 1st look into your ins. Guest guest
Hi there! We live in Grand Prairie, right on Joe Pool lake and our pediatrician is in Mansfield. We tried the Arlington Hanger first as our insurance would cover a significant portion - but from the beginning consult I didn't get a confident vibe from them. Our pediatrician is MARVELOUS and recommended CT in Dallas - from the moment we stepped into their office it was a totally different experience. We LOVE them! Olivia has been in her band for 2 weeks and we have seen tremendous growth and correction already (she is now 5mo and 1 week).I would HIGHLY recommend CT in Dallas! If you have a choice go with them!!!It is a bit farther away but it is easy to drive and find - right off of 635 and Hillcrest - exactly 45min from my driveway.Hope that helps, let me know or email me if you want to talk more and/or exchange phone numbers.Best Regards,Darcy Brignacmom to Princess Olivia, 5mo, 3rd week in DOC band I will say that Hanger is really hit or miss, they are probably the ones we hear the most negative stories about, but it's definitely not all Hanger orthos. Guest guest
We also tried aggressive repositioning first. How large (length) is your son? We got, used and had significant success (though not enough) with a snuggle nest bed. We put it inside the crib and used the positioner it came with along with rolled up blankets and it worked very well for us. Our little girl is very long, the 95th percentile for height so we had to retire the snuggle nest before we were ready too.Hope that helpsDarcy Brignacmom to Princess Olivia, 5mo, week 3 in DOC band 1st look into your ins. I don't want to have sub-par results or need another band because we had an inexperienced orthotist, so we're sticking with CT. Good luck with whatever you decide! Guest guest
It sounds like from talking to the ortho, he does tons of helmets for kids! So that makes me feel like he's got some experienceThanks for the info!Be still and know I am God PsalmsPlagiocephaly From: nwilkens2275@...Date: Tue, 21 Apr 2009 16:09:50 +0000Subject: Re: Cranial Tech vs. Hanger I will say that Hanger is really hit or miss, they are probably the ones we hear the most negative stories about, but it's definitely not all Hanger orthos. Guest guest
I am glad to hear you have had good results with CT in Dallas. I am thinking that is where we will end up going. I am just sad that he has to go through this in the middle of a Texas summer. Hopefully he won't have to wear it too long. Do most give you an estimated time on how long they need the helmet for based on their numbers? I am tempted to set up the consultation before our pedi visit just to get things rolling especially with the insurance since I don't know how long that will take and I don't want to delay this any longer then needed. He is not yet 4 months months and I understand t his is the prime time to get this done. Guest guest
My least favorite experience with CT was the finance/insurance people as well. Luckily, you really only have to deal with them in the very beginning and then never again, so it's great that you got a good feeling from your PT, since you'll be seeing her at every visit. Guest guest
We use CT IN Dallas also and never had a problem with their financial people. Maybe it's because my husband and I had already resolved that chances were that insurance would deny the claim and we would have to pay in full. Then it turned out that our insurance approved the band and paid 80%. So, we never had to really deal with the finance people. I hope you have a better experience next time.
