Guest guest
As a pre-op, I never gave any thought to a rib spreader but I suppose it is standard practice to use it. Has anyone else suffered a comlication or pain from its use?
Guest guest
I believe Judie said she had the rib pain for a while then one day she woke up pain free. Lucky duck. I will say that after several people in my town who were a week or so ahead of me had the vertical cut, breatbone to navel, I'm glad mine is the way it is....they are still talking about tenderness etc. I'm almost to the point (5 weeks) where I don't realize I've been cut open. Everything is healed, I haven't really had any pain or discomfort since the end of week 3 and about week4 I stopped hurting if I bent over. The incision is more to the left, about half way between my belly button and breast and is 14 inches long. Mine is longer since I'm bigger I'm sure. It goes from about the middle of my right breast to the far side of my left breast. ~~* AJ *~~ Age 37 5'8'' Post op 7/24/01 Open BPD/DS self pay - Dr Baltasar -Alcoy Spain 07/24/01 BMI 64 415.1 08/06/01 BMI 59 390.2 -24.9 lbs! -10.75 inches 08/16/01 BMI 58 387.0 -28.1 lbs! -11.25 inches 08/24/01 BMI 58 386.5 -28.6 lbs! -15.5 inches 08/30/01 BMI 58 378.3 -36.8 lbs! -21.25 inches My personal website: www.WLS4AJ.homestead.com Check out the Bellingham Support Group at WWW.WLSBellingham.homestead.com

Guest guest
Whew...extender sound much better than cracker! I saw one of those Discovery programs where they used a rib cracker and I can't imagine how you feel once they put you all back together again. Hey AJ...I noticed that Dr. Baltasar does the horizontal (transverse?) incision...any reason why he does this rather than the horizontal incision? I'm seeing Dr. Keshishian and was just wondering if this is one of those things where you get to make a choice and what the benefits of horizontal vs. vertical were. Thanks! > In a message dated 9/1/01 10:31:44 PM Pacific Daylight Time, > girlygil@y... writes: > > > > Do they always use a rib spreader in the open DS procedure? > > Sounds painful.... > > > > > > I dont think so....you don't have your ribs cracked open....someone said the > pain is from extenders used to hold your fat and tissue out of the way when > they aredoing the surgery. Guest guest
Thanks for all the information! I'm going to post the incision question on Dr. K's list now. I subscribe to 3 lists and read each one faithfully (obsessively :>). I've been really impressed with how well your surgery went and how little pain you had! If I have a choice with Dr. K, then that's what I'll opt for. Also, I've been trying to figure out how to add a signature to my posts (for stats), but I'm stumped...does the signature have to be added to your yahoo mail account? I was worried that all my other emails would have the stats at the bottom of the page as well... thanks! > In a message dated 9/1/01 11:10:56 PM Pacific Daylight Time, > girlygil@y... writes: > > > > Hey AJ...I noticed that Dr. Baltasar does the horizontal (transverse?) > > incision...any reason why he does this rather than the horizontal > > incision?
