Guest guest
if it's going ok, you don't need them. They came about after babies had developed sores and we ended up resorting to chopping the heel out to either a) remove the pressure from the affected area so the sore healed, or gain a view of the foot inside to know if the heel is seated properly or not. If he's doing ok (no painful cries or slipping up/out of the shoes) and you're pushing the heel deeply into the back pocket when you put them on the window is likely unnecessary. Should the time come where some of these issues arise, you can cut the hole in your current shoes to check the fit and it will not affect the integrity of the shoe. I know this, I have done it. My daughter's new doll her grandmother gave her for Christmas, " Pete " now wears her old shoes and 8 " bar and he's doing quite nicely with the holed shoe :~} Kori At 07:40 PM 1/1/2006, you wrote: >Does anyone have the open heel shoes? Guest guest
If what you have works, I wouldn't dare mess with it! Marcia Markell's open heel or closed heel? Does anyone have the open heel shoes? We got the closed heels and we are on day 2 in the FAB (Markell Straight Last open toe with the adjustable DBB). It seems to be going ok. Rory's been sleeping through the night even with his FAB on. But I was wondering, would it be worth the hassle (dealling with the doctors, orthotics company, insurance company, etc.) to get the open heel shoes? & Rory rcf 11/2/
Guest guest
Yay for Rory sleeping through the night after two days! Hearing that makes me less nervous about transitioning into the shoes. lcf 6/19/05 > > Does anyone have the open heel shoes? Guest guest
It's a pretty easy transition with the help of the materials from Kori. I'm jealous that you'll have the open heel (then you'll really know the heel is down). I felt like it was an ordeal communicating with our orthotics company to get the right shoes/bar. The script was pretty detailed but I wish it had the Markell product numbers, that would have made it easier. After we got the shoes and went back to the dr, I was surprised that and the drs did not have a handout for us to take with us (she mentioned she had a hand out but had a problem with the printer). Since the FAB is the critical part of the correction, you'd think she'd make sure we were well prepared to be sucessful from the start (such as never running out of the handouts?). But we are managing just fine with her oral instructions and the materials from this site/Kori. The FAB is not so bad, I like it better than the casts because we get one hour with the little piggies!! But the bar makes positions for nursing a little more interesting. > > > > Does anyone have the open heel shoes? Guest guest
hook your arm right through baby's legs and hold right up high chest to chest, works great. Easier in fact I thought... Also same position to cary, just put your arm in between the legs and cradle babe's head with same hand when they're little. Sometimes I even hook the bar right up over my shoulder like a purse (although not with baby upside down!) and carry her that way. Course she's bigger than an infant but I have been doing it as long as I can remember lol. There are some advantages to the bar IMO :~} Kori At 10:37 AM 1/2/2006, you wrote: >The FAB is not so bad, I like it better than the casts because we >get one hour with the little piggies!! Guest guest
I have to admit that I'm QUITE jealous that your little one is sleeping so well! I spend most of my days fighting to get my two youngest to sleep at all!! I am counting the minutes until I get more than 2 hours of consecutive sleep just one night! Maybe some day, though I won't hold my breath! :-) Thank god for the swing is all I can say... for naps, anyway! Enjoy, and I am so glad for you! (even if I am jealous!!) Guest guest
Stacee: How old are your kids?? I know what you mean though... Our little one is finally starting to sleep MOST of the night... He still wakes up at least once or twice just because he is so uncomfortable I think. He rarely takes a nap during the day unless he is held! I feel your pain:)! Guest guest
Reid-- My oldest is 5, then 2, and 14 weeks. Before came along, the older two slept great, at least 11-13 hours per night and my two yr old took 2 excellent naps per day. Then I had #3 and all hell broke loose. Now my 5 yr old is getting up at 5-5:30am, doesn't take a nap, of course, and has bags under his eyes some days! My 2 yr old often refuses at least one nap a day, and is ready for bed by 6pm sometimes. In fact, our entire family is going to bed ridiculously early to accommodate 's schedule, just so we can all get a little sleep. I'm trying really hard to read the Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child book, but I can't focus on it, so I keep having to re-read. I've been at it for almost 4 months now! 's got the most screwy sleep patterns of the 3 and I cannot figure him out! I cannot remember a night since his birth that he has gone to bed without screaming, which means that he has to be in bed asleep before the other two or he'll wake them up. It's a crazy downward spiral, for which no one seems to have any answers. I'm supposed to start school again in 2 weeks and I'm thinking seriously about postponing that because of all the sleep battles in our house! Sorry to rant... I just get frustrated with the situation. I don't like not having control over stuff like that!! Our pediatrician doesn't know what to tell us since 's got the clubfoot treatment issue--is that part of the reason he's not sleeping well, or is it totally unrelated? None of us know, that's for sure! All I know for sure is that I am someone who THRIVES on sleeping well and it's killing me to be getting no more than 1-1.5 hours in a row every single night! :-) Stacee > > > > > > Does anyone have the open heel shoes? Guest guest
We do the same hook and carry hold. Actually works great, easier to balance that end of them when nursing and you have to run to grab the phone or one of the other kiddos Marcia Re: Re: Markell's open heel or closed heel? hook your arm right through baby's legs and hold right up high chest to chest, works great. Guest guest
My son will be 3 in April and he has just started to sleep through the whole night for the past couple of months. Before that he woke up every night. It does get quite depressing when you feel so tired all the time. I also have 2 girls non clubfoot, and they both slept through from very young with no problems, but my son has always woken up and he has bilateral C/F and I always thought it was the shoes. But now he is sleeping through with his shoes on I presume he would have been like this even without them but I will never know. I also go to work which is a real drag if you are tired!!!! I sometimes wonder how we get through it. Thankfully he has finally got it - that he is supposed to sleep all night!!!!!!!!!!!! Rach Steve & Connor -- Re: Markell's open heel or closed heel? Guest guest
We are going in tomorrow to get a layer of the fiberglass cast-stuff put over both casts. is still banging one cast against the other and now the tenotomy cast has started to soften on the heel. I, too, wish the specific shoe numbers wrer on the script. There was no problem switching the order with the orthotics company but now we are being denied by our insurance. We are going to appeal but that is a nuisance! > > > > > > Does anyone have the open heel shoes?
