Hi, Bee -

When I took Lifestyle 3 about two weeks ago, one of the nurses

mentioned that Metformin has apparently been associated with some types

of issues in post-WLS patients, and that they recommend that post-op

WLS patients not use it. I can't remember exactly what the issues

were, however; my memory is that it made blood sugars unstable but I

may be wrong about that.

I strongly recommend that you call and ask. This class was in SSF,

since that's the center I'm going through. If you're through a

different facility, you should call them and ask, but maybe someone

else here will have info as well.

Hi Wanda, I'm , I live in Modesto and I have just finished my G/B overview class and had my psych eval done last month, so I am a little further than you. I am now waiting for the reports from those two appts to get to my doc and then for him to send them to Kaiser. Then , from all I gather, it's hurry up and wait, for approval and acceptance into a program probably in Fremont. The next step will be orientation and beginning the 10 % loss journey. The psych and the overview are very easy, nothing to sweat there. Are you attending support group anywhere? There is one at Mc Henry Villiage on the first Monday of the month. It is very informational. There are people there at every level in this process. There is one in Turlock and one in Oakdale also, not sure of the times and locations but I will find out and let you know. Wanda

fremont would be nice as it is closer to here and easier to access than SSF, but i know that you would jump at where ever they send ya! WandaJust because of the leg pain it is hard to exercise, but you will need to so you can lose the 10% for the WLS. I was the same way I have screws in my feet, have had 3 feet surgeries, have a bad knee which still may need replacement someday, I have fibromyalgia and arthritis, so I started out with chair dancing which you can borrow or buy from the eduction center at kaiser. It is hard and we can say we can not, but you have to push yourself a few minutes at a time. I also love water aerobics and there is no pain on the legs when you do this, and the class I'm in is very good with people of all sizes. There are ways to exercise, you just have to be willing. any one on insulin have the WLS if so how did you do with diabeties post /op Yocheved Goldstein wrote: You are right...PCOS ( poly cystic ovarian syndrome) is never truly cured, but WLS does drive it into remission, similar to diabetesWanda wrote: What is PCOS I have no Idea what they are talking aboutCathy wrote: I don't know if the sugery "cures" PCOS exactly. It may "cure" PCOS just like it "cures" diabetes. The American Diabetes Assn. calls WLS the only cure for diabetes,

but at one of my classes they told us it's not actually a cure, since the underlying diabetes is still there and can recurr if you gain the weight back or your body becomes insulin-resistant again. It sounds more to me as if it sends the condition into remission, where it's effectively gone but you still keep monitoring it to make sure there's no return.Cathy C.>> Actually , I don't know if you have PCOS or not...but my ob/gyn who is the head of the infertility group at Kaiser prescribed Metformin to help manage my excess insulin. Excess insulin can cause difficulty in getting pregnant...and can also cause miscarriage.> > So, if you stopped Metformin without doctor's orders because you are concerned about negative impacts on your

My primary wanted me to take a rest, and my insulin seems to be good now. I am doing my lab work for my one year (which includes fasting tests) and hopefully they will also be able to determine my insulin level, too. I had hyperinsulinimia (my blood sugar was fine, but my insulin was high...which is not uncommon with PCOS).> > Anyway, I meet with my ob/gyn next week (a follow up to a test that I'm a little worried about...has nothing to do with the surgery), and I'm going to ask her about whether Metformin is still relevent for

SO, thus, when you start losing weight..it's a good thing for all of your other symptomology.> > Robynn I can do all things through christ who strengthens me Wanda " Be who you are and say how you feel, because those who mind do not matter, and
