For me, the numbness was caused by the excess weight. The extra weight in my

arms and upper body caused the blood to be restricted in certain positions.

The numbness would get so bad that I would wake up with horrible pain in my

arms and they would be blue. It was awful. I would have to sleep with a

pillow propping my arms in certain positions. Even with that I would still

wake a lot at night with problems. It has gotten so much better and I can

actually sleep all night.

kathy M: I dont' know what your starting bmi was (or if it was similar to

mine), but I was starting to get numb hands and arms (even legs) while

sleeping... now I rarely experience that (actually, I can't remember one

instance when I have at 7 months post-op). My arms didn't turn blue but it

was quite annoying and painful. I would also wake up in the middle of the

night with no feeling in my arms (I sleep rotating on my sides and back).

So, I know my pains were related to excess weight, too. :)

all the best,
