Guest guest
I just wanted to add to this also... Avery just turned 18 months on the 24th of December and we thought she would be walking by herself by now too... she came 2 months early but she has a twin that walked on their due date so that is frustrating to see.... I am not always sure that prematurety has anything to do with it since one of mine is walking on time and the other isn't ... Avery was born with a left clubfoot and started out with the casting before she even weighed 5 lbs... (which looking back I wish we would have waited a little longer)....she just had a rough start but she has meet all of her milestones except walking alone... she does it behind anything she can... she also just sits when we let go... she has been starting to take a couple of steps here and there when she wants to and will sometimes stand alone when she doesn't realize that we let go.... I really think it is a matter of time.... all of the doctors that we have seen say the same thing... we even saw Dr Ponseti a couple of weeks ago and he was very pleased with her correction but did agree to her ankles being 'loose'.... that I guess just comes with time and more walking .... BUT I wanted to ask you, Kathleen, about the smo's... we asked her ortho about it and she said she really didn't want to see us do that until she was at least 2..... does that sound right???.... I don't really know what they are except I remember you saying something about them helping so when we went to see the ortho we asked and that is what she told us... she thinks it is just a matter of time also.... she has it down for the most part but still just not confident... I keep saying I won't totally be worried until the end of Feb when she would 'really' be 1 1/2 years old.... like some of you were saying, Avery's speech is so much more advanced than Delaney's so that has been interesting to see... Avery is just busy learning all she can and observing while Delaney is busy toddling around!!... I guess they all do it when they darn well want too!!! It has been great reading all of the stories about this... Hundley wrote: Thanks Kathleen for sharing that with me. Last night Aidan actually took 3 steps down the side of the couch without holding on. I don't think he realizes he's doing it. leenernd wrote: - You certainly got plenty of responses but I wanted to let you know that we too have a late walker. Our little guy also at 16 months does exactly as Aidan-the minute he doesn't have the support, he sits down. His little face is sooo determined though-I can see the wheels working in his brain-he just doesn't feel comfortable as yet to let go. We are trying to make it a game of it for the " let go " part to get him more comfortable. His PT and Ped are not too concerned-they said they would be at 18 months(LOL-how 2 months really makes that much of a difference). My only consolation is his 2 classmates who are just now walking independently and have finally graduated to his classroom(out of the infant room)-both have no known physical issues and are the same age as our . I figure he will walk in his own time(although dh is more anxious than I). was given smo's to wear during the day to help his stability-he is soo loose ligamented that he has no ankle support-and we have really seen a difference.Hang in there-I know how you feel!! take care, kathleen mom to david bcf fab 12/7 8/28/04 > > Well here we are at almost 17 months and Aidan is still not walking by himself. Yes, he was almost 3 months premature, but still. I'm beginning to worry. He's been cruising around furniture and walking behind a scooter and holding fingers for as long as I can remember. However, as soon as I let go he sits down. > > He has started to take one or two steps between the couch and sofa but if he's not next to those objects forget it. > > Most importantly, when he walks holding my hand it seems his left foot turns out pretty far to the left and his right foot is straight forward. He was bilateral clubfoot, with the right being a little stiffer than the left. It appears he also is dragging the left foot a little. He doesn't do it all the time though. When I walk him through the grass he picks up both feet equally. > > Thanks for listening, very concerned mother. Anyone else have late walkers. > > > --------------------------------- > Yahoo!
