Guest guest
Hi, Has anyone's kids experienced episodes of what we call " hot body? " Every few weeks or so, my son's torso becomes extremely hot to the touch, and he's mostly irritable and lethargic These episodes last several days. He is not " sick " during this time. This has been going on for over a year. Our regular pediatrician blew us off with the line about giving him Tylenol if his temp got too high. Our DAN doctor hasn't heard of any other complaints like this, and kind of doubts bacteria or yeast would cause this, yhough he does not rule out the possibility. My son has evidence of high amounts of gut bacteria which has come down only slightly after two months of Pro-Culture Gold probiotic. I suspect yeast also, and we are waiting for stool test results to confirm. Anyone have ideas about hot body? I feel my son is burning up from the inside out today. Thanks, Debbie
Guest guest
F, I wouldn't really consider this a fever. His buttocks, legs and arms stay completely cool during these episodes. When I put my hand on his back, it feels hot enough to fry an egg (if we ate eggs, which we don't), but then I run my hand down his back to his bottom, and it's as though there's a line at his waist where the temperature drops off to normal. It's really a distinct difference. When he's truly sick with a fever, his whole body heats up, not just his torso. No, he's not being treated for yeast. I think he has yeast, but we're waiting for test results to come back before treating. He's on probiotics for bacteria, but has only been for two months. These hot body episodes have gone on for over a year. As far as speech, his speech has never been delayed or affected, so I can't help you with your question about speech improving during a fever. That really is interesting, though. As far as an allergen causing the hot body, yes, I think this is a distinct possibility, except that in so many instances, I can't think of a darn thing that he'd eaten which could have caused a problem. I'm really hoping yeast could cause this problem, because if it's not yeast, I'm out of ideas. Thanks, Debbie
Guest guest
Marita, Except for the vomiting, which my son doesn't do, what your son had sounds similar to what my son has. I hope my son outgrows it before he's eight - my son in four now and when his body gets so hot, I can't imagine all the damage being done internally. Was your son tested for yeast and/or bacteria at the time he was gettign his episodes? I'm hoping yeast is causing this and am waiting for test results to get back. Thanks, Debbie
Guest guest
Yes!!! This same thing happened with our child for a few years (seems to have grown out of it now at 8). Every two to three months he would become febrile with vomiting. He always vomits with a fever. He never showed any signs of an infectious process - no cold or flu symptoms, no urinary tract infections etc. It would last for about 24 hours and then he would be flat for a couple of days and then we would have a period of calmness where he was really good, calm, and stable. This would last for a short while, before agitation etc flared up again. It was a really weird thing, and we never found out the reason for it. But it definately seemed to be a cyclical thing. It hasn't happened now for about a year I think, maybe a bit longer. I didn't click that it had stopped until one day he complained that he felt hot and vomited, and we expected the same thing to happen again, but this time he got a cold. I don't know why it stopped, but about a year ago he started medication (Zoloft) and we made big dietary changes (not gfcf then) - eliminating all added colours, chocolate in any form, and caffeine. Whether that had any positive affect I can't say as I have no idea where this sort of febrile thing stems from. We just put it down to one of those weird things that has happened as part of his autism. I always believed that it was related to the autism as there were positive changes in mood/behaviour and traits afterwards. How old is your son? Guest guest
You know you are not crazy the body reacts with a fever to many things-he could be just getting overheated though probably not the case as it lasts a couple days. I t also could be another allergen-the body will react with fever if it comes in contact with an allergen-you could see if his fevers coincide with a common thing like a food or other substance. If he is bieng treated for yeast-his body could just be fighting the overgrowth. One question if you dont mind- does his speech improve with a fever? My son always had big gains in speech during a fever-very strange but I have often wondered if it happens to anyone else.
